Thanks to everyone who share their experiences on this web site. I am newly banded last week and have not told my family or friends about this ordeal. I lie in bed wondering if I have done the right thing by not telling anyone as I feel I need the support sometimes. (When I am hurting and feeling sorry for myself). Today I had a few people answer some questions I had and I feel so much better knowing that you are all out there in the same boat-as to speak. I just wanted to say thank you for taking the time to help one another it means so much knowing you all care about your fellow human beings.

Yes some family can be negative about it especially the ones that can diet and exercise faithfully and do well, but when you done it all tried diets diet pills and there is no miracle diet to loose weight its up to the individual and this tool is what it is still you are the one to make it happen. i tell everyone i had it done even complete strangers some ask questions other don't no biggy,,, no need to hide.. it was your choice. Good Luck

Sometimes I think I would have liked to have kept my op quiet and see who comments on my weightloss but I am the type of person who tells all about myself. I started telling people one by one at work but they all knew before my op. The only thing is now( 9weeks post op) people like to ask how I'm doing. They seem to wait until I am alone with them. SInce trhere are about 20 people at work this is getting a little annoying as I can be spending soooo much time talking about the band.

There are loads of people on here who have been there and done that with certain issues and can advise you of their experiences so use them.

I've found I was spending hours and hours every day on here initially but now feel more confident so I come on for 20mins every day or even every other day xx

I was banded in August of 2005 and no one knows I had the surgery, My family that lives with me don't even know. Believe me when I tell you they will only find fault and then become the food police. Then you will hear about all the weight loss horror stories. This would be the scenerio in my family. You will get over the hurt when someone calls you a, skinny b***h, I thanked them. The best support you will get is on this forum. There must be a good reason why you chose not to tell them. Good luck.

my sugery is 10 days away and only a handful of people know. the ones I have told are not very supportive. I feel alone often but I will be at my meetings faithfully and take solace with other band patients.

This forum is awesome, you get a lot of support and learn a lot.

I have only told a couple of people and I told them it is my choice to tell anyone else, if and when I want too.

BUT I also believe you need other support as well.

If you do not want to tell your family or a friend that is your choice, but you should find a support group to attend.

one of the reasons is that a friend of the family had it done a few years ago, I have heard many a comment about what she is eating and not eating ( the food police ) I do not want people watching what i eat some ot the time.

more reasons but this is the big one.

I will be thinking about you in the next two weeks, good luck on your surgery.

My husband knows he does his best to be there for me.

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

The 14th was my day. I am home and recovery is going pretty smooth. They even let me walk out of the hospital. Picture of me in recovery curtesy of my boyfriend lol.

Neat you have a pic of this day! I was sooo happy to get my surgery. It was well worth it! And I'm not even near my goal. I had surgery Dec. 2!
