To Stay Or Not To Stay.....

Recommended Posts

Yesterday, my surgeon asked me if I would prefer to stay the night in the hospital, after being banded, or If I'd rather go home. What did you do? What do you advise or think? What's your plan?

I stayed 1 night in the hospital and I think it is a good idea for everyone. I mean you ARE having surgery and it doesn't hurt to be monitored over night. This will allow you to rest without worrying about the family bothering you. Good luck and best wishes!

In general my physician does not have his patients stay. I thought that would be ok. But I found that I was wrong. For one, anesthesia hangs around for awhile and it makes your head fuzzy and judgement off. Two, it would have been nice to have someone there to reassure you everything was ok anhuh swear the questions going through your mind. I am an RN and even I felt sketchy being home without medical supervision. So YES stay one night. You will not regret it!

My first consideration would probably be distance from your home to your surgery center. If you don't live far from your doctor, then go home. Sounds like hubby and kids are old enough to be told NOT to bother you. When my kids were little, on the very rare occasions I took a nap, I would tell them not to disturb me unless there was blood or fire... and the blood had to be spurting, not dripping! :)

I was the first patient of the morning and I was actually home, in my own comfy bed, before noon.

My insurance required me to stay one night and glad I did. Was able to get stronger pain meds, plus rest.

I was supposed to be outpatient, but then 2 weeks before surgery, my doc changed me to be overnight at the hospital. I am SO glad I stayed overnight. The meds were better and I felt better prepared to go home.

My doctor gives a choice also, I did not stay.

For me, I was much more comfortable at home but I have a husband who will wait on me hand and foot if I needed him to which I did not. I only have one very symapthetic 6 yr old grandchild who lives with me.

With three kids and an unnurturing husband I would probably spend the night.

You just have to decide where you would feel more comfortable.

I guess that depends on many factors. For me... I would not want the added expense of an overnight stay. If your insurance covers it 100%... then that is a non issue.

I did extremely well after my surgery and had little pain. I liked being home and comfortable. If I had the option with my upcoming surgery, I would chose to recover at home again. Nothing is better than your own bed.

Thank you so much for your valuable insights! I live an hour away from the hospital, but in traffic it could take 2 hours. I'm leaning toward staying at the hospital. I don't really like the idea, but I think it would be wise. I believe my insurance covers it 100%, but I will confirm that before I am admitted. I just think it will be easier on me, my husband and the kids if everyone knows I'm in good care for the first night and no one has to fuss over me. I'm quite nervous about surgery also, so I think knowing I'll be well cared for will be an added benefit. Thank you again for the input and advise.

I did not stay a night in the hospital because I was self pay and would have been extra expense. If your insurance covers it then I would stay the night. They have better pain meds and you can rest more without kids around.

Stay at the hospital so they can look after you, if you can work it out.

I am a little surprised your doctor is giving you a choice before surgery. Mine waited until afterwards to make the determination.

Like Regnu, my insurance required an overnigth stay. I am not sure that I needed it, for comfort, but for my peace I did. I was not bothered by well-meaning family and friends, and was able to rest before making the hour ride home. If you have children or no one to assist you, stay overnight. Best wishes. Karen

Hi, I’m new here. I’m currently on the liver shrinking diet. So far so good, but I have to say I haven’t found a protein shake I like. Anyone have any suggestions please? My surgery date is September 17th.

Fairlife Core are by far the best. They taste just as they are - chocolate milk. You can either get the 26 grams or the 42 grams (harder to find and more expensive). For straight protein look at Bulksuppliments.com ..they have really good whey proteins and offer auto ship plus they test for purity. No taste or smell...

Fairlife has strawberry, vanilla and of course chocolate. No more calories than other protein drinks. Stay away from Premiere, they're dealing with lawsuits due to not being honest about protein content.
