Can't hardly believe this!!! I was banded 5/23 and I've lost 15lbs so far and I'm shocked how fast it is coming off however, I've notice that I am actually really hungry at times. Did this happen to you too?

I was banded 5/18 and hit 25 lbs lost this morning! The first week after surgery I never felt hungry. I started pureed food Wednesday and find that I am starting to get the hunger feelings every now and then. I was worried that when I started pureed that I may gain since I was finally eating food, but I've started losing faster.

Good luck in your journey!!

I was banded may 24 and I'm really hungry. Dr says do 3 Protein Shakes a day. It's not helping. I don't know why I can't start the next phase? Why does he want me on liquids? I see post on here where people have started puréed foods early.

Don't be jealous!! I started measuring from when I met the surgeon, which was 11 days before surgery. He didn't put me on a Pre-Op Diet per se, just said to eat responsibly until the day before than Clear Liquids. I've only lost 5 lbs since surgery, but considering I put back on 4 the few days after surgery, I'm happy with losing what I gained plus a few!

Jannaboo - I think it really boils down to surgeon preference. My surgeon strongly stuck to full liquids after surgery because your stomach needs time to heal without having to "work" to break down food. I started the puree only one day before the two week transition point, but I also saw him in the office for my post-op visit that day.

Well I have cheated twice with mashed potatoes because I was starving. I handled it well but worried about what damage it can do

The reason for the liquid diet is so the sutures have a chance to set well and so the band can settle. When you eat normal foods, the stomach churns to digest them which can interfere or harm healing by popping stitches, possibly even moving the band if you eat large quantities.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
