I'm getting banded on July 3rd. Did my last test this last Monday, chest x-ray, and thats all I had left to do. I have overwhelming support from my friends, I've had no one say it was a bad idea. On the day of my surgery I might have a small army waiting for me when I get out...lol. That's what keeps me going! :)

I will be banded July 18, and cant' wait. However, I am a little worried because I've been reading that most people do the Atkins diet two weeks prior surgery. However, my doctor indicated only one week prior surgery. Any thoughts???

I'm not having one of them!

So has anyone else had the pre-sedative before going under, if so what does it feel like?

Please reply cause i know i am gonna need it so i want to know what it is like.

Thanks people. :)

I have had a sedative during a c-section (the only other surgery I have had) and it really did calm me down and ease my nerves, my blood pressure and heart rate kept climbing higher and higher and the more I watched the monitors the higher the numbers got. I just remember it relaxing me and made me feel just calm but not sleepy. I hope this helps and good luck to you.

My doctor said he would do it if I didn't do any diet, as long as I did the 24 hour Clear Liquids before surgery. The benefit is a less slippery and smaller liver so the surgery goes smoother/faster. If you can cut down to less than 100 g carbs and lower your fat the week before you start Atkins it will help, but if your doctor doesn't ask for it, he must not be worried about it. My guess is you have a relatively low BMI. My therapist always tells me it takes 2 weeks to break a habit. So if you want to make the transition easier for yourself, you might benefit post surgery from breaking the habits sooner than later. Don't worry if your Dr said 1 week though.

what is the pre-surgery diet?? can i start it now? ... my pants are going to bust before i get my consult date :(

Also, my biggest issue with my weight is work, it's  very depressing here (workers drama) and i find myself eatting more than i should or need to. I have submitted a hardship case but nothing yet due to budget cuts.

My Pre op diet is completely doable. Protein shake for lunch and dinner and lunch is ALL of the following:

3-4oz of lean Protein

1 small salad with lemon or vinegar

1/2 cooked or 1 cup raw vegetables

8oz of low sodium chicken or beef broth

Lost 2.5 lbs on day one!

Looks like there are quit a few of us going in on 7/19. Wishing everyone (including myself) the best of luck! I have to be on a 10 day liquid diet, I'm so worried about that I haven't really thought about the surgery!

Question for anyone, how did you get your mind right before surgery? Like as far as eating better foods and just doing better in general? I'm having a really hard time with this. Any help is appreciated 🙏❤️

I had about 6 months between deciding to do surgery and getting scheduled. I came across the book The Pound of Cure by Dr. Matthew Weiner, a bariatric surgeon in Arizona, and started to implement some of the changes he recommended (and lost 13 lbs in the process without ever feeling deprived). The book is very simple, and the focus is on whole, plant based foods, but within reason. It's not an all or nothing approach, or going vegan or something, but focuses on improvement and aiming for getting it right 80-90% of the time. His suggestions are divided into 12 sections that you can tackle over time, perhaps one per month for a year if a person is just trying to improve nutrition and build good habits. They range from things like cutting out artificial sweetener or eating more beans to eating a pound of vegetables per day. I found it really effective pre-surgery and it's an eating style I will be working to get back to as I am further out from surgery and have more capacity. Small changes you can sustain will do the most for building good habits for life.

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
