Geez, No Weight Loss Then A One Lb Gain. What Am I Doing Wrong? 2 Weeks Post Op

Recommended Posts

wow, this is distressing. Preop I lost 7 pounds, then during the first ten days post op, I lost 13 pounds. Then for three days no loss and today a one pound gain. What am I doing wrong? I started the soft food four days ago and I am making sure that the calories are under 600 for the day, but nothing is happening.

Has this happened to anyone else? I've not done any outright exercise, but every day I am up and about and walking around stores (to distract myself but yet keep walking),

My stomach does still feel a bit swollen especially where the port is but I saw my primary care doc and she said things look good. I don't see my surgeon until the 26th of June

Any tips? Thanks

Maybe you're not eating enough? 600 cals is pretty low. Also, you're still healing right now so don't focus so much on the weight loss. You may even gain as you start the solids. Just do what you're supposed to be doing and you'll be okay, especially when you go for your first fill.

I think 600 cals is too low. Also I would recommend starting a exercise program. Remember the first 10 pounds is most likely Water weight. Each pound now is either from burning 3500 calories or cutting 3500 cals from your diet.

The first 4-6 weeks post surgery are for healing, not weight loss. I know it's frustrating, but you have to give your body time to heal. Plus, it's pretty dang hard to make "smart" food decisions when your choices are so limited by the post op diet already.

With that said, 600 calories is very low, and I agree with the others it's likely part of the problem. But again, it's understandable during the post op diet.

It does get a lot easier once you're back on real food. Until then, I would put your scale away and strictly focus on healing. The weight loss will come once you're healed.

Best wishes to you.

Thank you guys! I appreciate the feedback. I guess I just really need to focus on healing and maybe add some more calories.

That happened to me too and everyone told me to eat more, I increased calories to average 1000 a day.

Now I have lost 4 pounds in 2 weeks.

Listen to the help people who want to help you on here, they know what they are talking about.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
