Hi friends.... Hope someone can help me out with this one....just had 3rd fill and FINALLY feel the "R" word!!! Yay!!!! However, I begin to hiccup after my 2nd or 3rd bite. Today took my 1st bite of a mozzarella stick and couldn't finish it due to the hiccups! Whats up?? :)

I havent been banded but I know when I take really big bites or eat too quickly i get them. Maybe this is the same issue for you, try smaller bites.

That is interesting. I have read other people on this site say that hiccups are one of their "soft signs" that they are full/satisfied and to stop eating. I have noticed that about myself too. I only have one fill and not at green zone yet. But when I am 3/4 or so thru my meal I hiccup. I have learned to stop right then b/c any more bites equal discomfort.

Maybe it will take a few days for your fill to settle in and you can eat a few more bites without the hiccups. It is weird how that happens though.....glad you are at the "R". I hope to get there at 3rd fill too!

Thanks guys... Yes Kbliss... I thought the same about my fill settling....it would be crazy for my "full signal" to be after 2 bites if a cheese stick! That would suck.. Lol

Hiccups are cause by pressure on the vagal nerve. Usually they are a sign that you have had enough but it could also mean that you are eating too fast or taking too big bites. You should not be full after 2 - 3 bites as then you will get hungry again quickly. I think it is a case of after a fill you need to relearn how to eat - make sure you are paying lots of attention to size of bites, chewing and waiting between bites. If this doesn't settle it could mean that this fill was too much and you may need some taken out, but give it time, don't rush back to the Dr.

Thanks Elcee.. That makes sense. Tomorrow I will defenitely make the effort to slow down and take baby bites. I bet that's all it is. To this point I haven't had any issues with bite sizes or even amounts of food!

how soon after your fill is this?? maybe its a bit too soon to be eating solids again?? do you do a day or two on liquids after fills??.

Hi Judy... I did a day of liquids and a day of soft foods, so the cheesestick was on the 3rd day after my fill.

Hi Jenny.. I just had my second fill yesterday, and the nurse practitioner told me that hiccups were good? She said that it wasn't good to eat until restriction all of the time. So I would assume that it's the signal that the pouch is full.. after the first few days that is! Lol..

This morning I had a sausage, egg and cheese wrap from dunkin donuts and must have ate it too fast because the hiccups started along with the stuck sensation and then the sliming....eating slow and chewing food very fine is something I am working on. I just got my first fill of 5cc this past Tuesday.

Quick question...what's the "r" you're referring to? Restriction maybe?

Yes Zip.... the famous "restriction".

Ditto what elcee said. I always have a huge learning curve after a fill. Each fill brings new eating rules. Experiment with sizes of bites and amount of chewing. If you are too limited, you might need a bit of Fluid removed.

Keep us posted!

its still possibly too soon. speaking from experience i had to wait two weeks before i was able to eat any thing much at all. i had a lot of trouble, especially as my dr told me to just have 48 hours of liquids and then back to normal eating.(Im not saying thats normal, as i know it isnt ) i know now that i cant do that... i dont think i ever will be able to. we are all different... all react so differently with the time schedules and what we can and cant eat. Its fascinating to read here just how diverse we all are.

Hi, I’m new here. I’m currently on the liver shrinking diet. So far so good, but I have to say I haven’t found a protein shake I like. Anyone have any suggestions please? My surgery date is September 17th.

Fairlife Core are by far the best. They taste just as they are - chocolate milk. You can either get the 26 grams or the 42 grams (harder to find and more expensive). For straight protein look at Bulksuppliments.com ..they have really good whey proteins and offer auto ship plus they test for purity. No taste or smell...

Fairlife has strawberry, vanilla and of course chocolate. No more calories than other protein drinks. Stay away from Premiere, they're dealing with lawsuits due to not being honest about protein content.
