BOB052212 22 Posted May 31, 2012 I was banded 8 days ago, ive progressed to soft/mushie foods. I am a band over bypass bandster and know how it feels to lose 100 pounds and gain 50 back! So this go round I am determined to work with my tool/lap band and do my part. With that being said im not giving the band an opportunity to fail me, I had the surgery really as a back up plan but knew the battle of the bulge boiled down to me defeating it! Dont get me wrong I am not discounting the band but at the end of the days its up to us to make sure we reach our goals. I will periodically post things that are helping me along my journey. For those of you who have smart phones I HIGHLY RECOMMEND an app I downloaded last night, its called MyFitnessPal it allows you to keep track of what you consume everyday, and automatically gives the calories and nutritional facts. Once you put in your weight, height, age....It will tell you what your daily calories should be. Due to being banded our calorie intake should be lower, it told me by the end of the day I should be consuming 1900 calories, I went ahead and changed it to 1000 and for today I was actually short 90 calories for the day which put me at 910 calories for the day, it also allows you to keep track of exercise and Water intake! 3 DizzyLizzy, duckydoom and dee257 reacted to this

Jim1967 3,569 Posted May 31, 2012 I am trying to use myfitnesspal but I question the accuracy of the nutritional information. When you guys add something new from the database to your list to you verify the information?
Jim1967 3,569 Posted May 31, 2012 I am having a hard time figuring out what my goals should be. Last time I spoke with the Nutrionist she told me to make sure I was getting anywhere from 70-110g of Protein a day. I changed the calories to 1000 and it shifted the total fat to something I find unrealistic. I am really not sure what I should be shooting for. Any suggestions would be great. When you guys add something new from the database to your list to you verify the information? I use fitness pal and yes I checked many of the things I was eatting to the lables....and every one I check is right on the mark ! 1 BOB052212 reacted to this
BOB052212 22 Posted May 31, 2012 Jim, your correct about the Protein, as far as the accuracy, thus far its been very accurate, I do a GNC 100% whey Protein Shake every morning, I typed in gnc whey ....and it gave me different gnc protein shake powders, I chose the one that I knew was what I use which is the 100 calorie 20 grams of protein shake, I also typed in oikos greek yogurt and pulled it right up with the accurate nutritional facts, it also gives alot of options, I was on the road yesterday and was starving, so I pulled into KFC and ordered the crispy chicken snacker, withhout sauce and threw the bun away, typed kfc snacker in and it gave me an option whether I had bread or no bread, sauce or no sauce... I set it 1000 calories for now, it recommends at least 1200 for a man, once im on full solids I may increase it, but as far as the calories, just change it to a realistic number for you! Hope this helps, oh I didn't really fool with the fat since most things I eat are fat free, the only thing I had yesterday that had more than 2 grams of fat was the chicken from KFC. Good Luck! JustDoIt130 369 Posted May 31, 2012 (edited) Jim- If I can, I just scan the food itself (well, really the package I guess, LOL). I have had good luck. As far as the actual nutrients- I really only pay attention to the Protein and the carbs (and not even the carbs really). I don't even look at the fat, just try to hit the Protein number and call it good. I just know everything else will be good. I also do my own calories, I go by what my nutritionist says- I eat less than 1200 calories a day, with an occasional higher calorie day (every 2-4 weeks). So I still keep track on myfitnesspal but don't worry about what their number is. Hope this makes some sense! But I really have found they're pretty accurate. edited for clarity! Yes, this is what I am doing as well but based on my weight when I went through the 'guided' goal settings it put me at 3800 calories day!! That's crazy. I changed it back to 1000 and it automatically pushed around all the other numbers.
BOB052212 22 Posted May 31, 2012 Jim, im 265 & it put me at 1900, I feel that's way to much for me, just put it at a number that is realist for you honestly with excercise you should be anywhere from 1000 to 2000, if you have a day higher than what your calories are that day.just try to increase your exercise for that day....Good luck!
