Went to a nutrition seminar today. People having different surgeries were there. I was the only one having the band. One guy getting the sleeve said...and I quote. Uh. Why would you ever do the band? You know it doesn't work.

I just can't stand people like this.

I know you wanted to tell him just how ignorant he was. :)

I always laugh when people say that, their ignorance is astounding.

I have a friend who had Gastric Bypass 2 months before me, and when I told her I was getting the Lap-Band, she told me I was nuts because it didn't work. We started out about the same weight, too.

Now, 5 months post surgery for me and 7 for her, she's lost 60 pounds. I've lost almost 100. She's not saying the band doesn't work anymore :P

Mis73, that is to funny!! I bet she is eating her words now!. I was talking to a gastric person the other day at the doctors office and listening to her describe what she can eat most 3 months out was depressing. I am so glad I got the band.

I have a friend who had the original gastric bypass surgery over 10 years ago. She told me while I was pre-op that she had known only 2 people who had opted for the band, and both of them had ended up having the band removed. She did not know the reasons why...

I never had any second thoughts, because my surgery had to be delayed for so long.

No regrets for my choice!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
