Lizabeth that is awesome that you got your fill! Mine made a huge difference and YES be careful with bread, rice, Pasta...you creep up on full and then....TOO LATE!!! At least that's been my experience.

I was talking with a buddy that told me his wife lost over 100lbs. with her band, and that's great, but the interesting part is that she only lost about 20lbs in her first 2 years. He said she had to get 'used to it' for a while and then got serious. Only now do you have all the tools and you are SO YOUNG! I know you'll be a success. Year 2 is when you kick some butt and take names.

Thanks for the kind words. Morgan is awesome and I'm glad I have the band because I need to be healthy in order to keep up with her and her big brother. I definitely can feel the difference (I don't sweat 24/7 in the Houston heat).

Take care and keep in touch!

Hi there,

I am being banded by Dr Kuri on the 14th February. Am I correct in saying that Dr Kuri does not out any full in the band at all? Does that mean that I won't have weight loss till I get my first fill?

Hi Ussr28. I got banded by Dr Kuri on Nov 26. He did not fill the band because you will need time to heal after the surgery. You will still lose weight. You will notice going into the 5th and 6th week you may start to get your old appetite back and you will be ready for your first fill when that 6th week comes. I just had my first fill mid Jan and I have since lost another 5 lbs. Slowly bit surely it's coming off and will for you too. Maybe even faster. :). I absolutely love Dr Kuri and his staff. They took such good care of me during and after my surgery. All his staff is very nice. Annabelle especially. I was so pleased I went back to Dr Kuri for my fill as well. I didn't want to go anywhere else. I am from AZ tho so both trips were easy for me. Good luck with your surgery. I am so happy I made the choice to get lap band for myself. Best wishes to you!!!

Thank you so much bobbiejoned27 for telling me that. I feel much more at ease. Unfortunately for me, I am from BC, Canada so it would be expensive to go back to Dr Kuri for fills.

I too am from Canada and I had my surgery with Dr. Kuri in Oct 2013. Jo Ann gave me a list of fill providers in my area and I discovered that in Alberta if a doctor does the fill health care pays for it. I have had 4 fills so far because my doctor was taking it slow to find my "sweet spot". i wasn't losing weight but the last fill was only a week ago and i am down 3.5 lbs. I am very excited

Hi one2of9,

Do you know if its the same for BC?

you have have 4 months of no weightloss? i would hate to have to wait that long to lose any weight. Do you know if your doctor did anything differently?

The first 6 weeks was all healing and i stayed the same. The band caused so little restriction when I went back on real food so I was just happy I didn't gain. I am very happy with what is happening now though. it was getting a little discouraging.

I traveled from Alberta to Mexico in November 2013 to get banded by Dr.Kuri and it was amazing! Dr.Kuri and his staff are awesome!!! I have no regrets and would do if all over tomorrow if I had to :). I was banded nov.13th and two weeks after my surgery I found out I was pregnant, so my weight loss journey got out on hold- unfortunately I had a miscarriage on jan.10th but have been dealing with emotions and trying to carry on with my journey. I have since lost 32.4lbs since my pre op weigh in. Slow process but I will get there :) you get what you put into it- the band won't do it for you! Good luck on your journey :) I assure you Dr.Kuri is an awesome choice!!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
