First Fill, Not Feeling Any Restriction! Is This Normal?

Recommended Posts

I got my first fill last week, and I do not feel any restriction. I am still able to eat as much as I was prior to getting my fill. I eat a small amount and I am hungry about 30 minutes later. I wake up starving...is this normal or should I talk to my Dr. about adjusting my band with another fill? My Doctor leaves the band empty after surgery, then fills after 6 weeks. I haven't lost any weight since the 25 lbs I lost after surgery.

Totally normal! Please keep in mind it can take up to a 2 weeks for a fill to take affect. The saline can move within the band. Most people however do not get restiction from one fill. Took me six months and like 5 fills before I got restiction.

Are you measuring your food? If not I recommend you start. My doctor says 3 oz of solid Protein and then low fat/cal/carb veggies until full (some doctors say 1/2-3/4 cup veggies).

Exercise is another important part of this process. Most doctors say you should do 30 minutes daily.

Oh yes it is so normal. Took me 6 fills to find the green zone. The first 3 I was like you but the next 3 seemed to help me not be so hungry and I started to lose weight. You'll find many others with similar stories.

Thank you for the response. I thought I would walk out of the Dr.'s office and take one bite and be stuffed! I am so nervous about getting stuck and all of the other horror stories, I am very careful bout what I eat, but I'm just not feeling full. I will continue what I'm doing and hopefully the fill full feeling will kick in.

I'm so glad u asked about this as I had my first fill two weeks ago. I feel nothing, in fact I think I'm eating more. I had 4cc put in a 11cc band.

Hopefully you will gain restriction soon, just remember band or no band we must be diligent in achieving our goals, keep up the good work!

Thanks! I have My Fitness Pal, had it before I got banded. I'm not worried about my eating. I haven't gained any weight, I just haven't loss. I'm down 40lbs since my pre-surgical visit, I lost 25lbs post surgery, but now nothing. I really thought that after my fill, I'd feel some restriction, I feel nothing. But I'll keep doing what I'm doing and kick up my workout routine to kickstart my losing again.

What does a fill feel like? I'm scheduled June 29, which I want to move up, because I gained 2lbs.... Does the needle insertion hurt a lot?

I don't have any more restriction than I did before my first fill either. I'm staying at a ten pound total loss so far. happy not to be gaining. Ooh and the fill needle didn't hurt me at all.

The needle insertion was I would say a little uncomfortable. I tolerate pain pretty well but I don't think it was as bad as getting blood drawn. I have 2 friends that were given the option on a deadening shot prior and said they didn't feel a thing! I didn't get the shot and it wasn't tat bad! I go for my 2nd fill June 6! Hope I feel some restriction as I feel very little now! Good luck and don't worry it's all worth it!

Took me 6 months and 4 fills to get restriction, I felt some restriction at around 6.25cc's but not again until 2 fills later at 8.25cc's. This first 5-6 months is about fine tuning your band. I have no doubt as I lose more weight I may need another small fill to keep me in the green. Hang in there, slow and steady is best, this is no quick fix but a journey.

I feel your pain. I know i am very new. However, I am following rules to a T! I am eating small 3/4 cup meals and at 900-1000 cal a day and have worked out daily the last two of 3 weeks since surgery. I lost 10 lbs week of surgery and gained a pound back and nothing since. I would think even without the band 1000 cal diet and daily exersize would be simple math of less calories than taking in would equal loss. But I feel like every other deit I have every been on, where I fail again.

I always hate reading negative comments on this page and now I am doing the same thing. I just felt that I should see something in the right direction instead of a 1 lb gain. I have always worked out too so I dont think it is recent muscle gain. I also read everyone posting that they lost alot in the first month and keep at that rate. I just didnt want it to be like this. Even if I had a 1lb loss a week I would feel better.

So, yes, I know how you feel :)

Hi, I’m new here. I’m currently on the liver shrinking diet. So far so good, but I have to say I haven’t found a protein shake I like. Anyone have any suggestions please? My surgery date is September 17th.

Fairlife Core are by far the best. They taste just as they are - chocolate milk. You can either get the 26 grams or the 42 grams (harder to find and more expensive). For straight protein look at Bulksuppliments.com ..they have really good whey proteins and offer auto ship plus they test for purity. No taste or smell...

Fairlife has strawberry, vanilla and of course chocolate. No more calories than other protein drinks. Stay away from Premiere, they're dealing with lawsuits due to not being honest about protein content.
