Introducing Myself, In Need Of Support

Recommended Posts

Hi Everyone,

My name is Sandy. I was banded on May 20, 2009, by Dr. Matt Glascock at Sartori Hospital in Cedar Falls Iowa. I am very discouraged. I've lost only 30 lbs. in 3 years. I do 45 mins. of aerobics everyday followed by 2 miles on the treadmill. I'm not losing anything! My family says that I am tightening up but I don't feel it in my clothes. I watch what I eat and I just don't get it. I really need some support. Any ideas are greatly appreciated.

how many calories do you eat a day? Do you feel restriction?

And do you keep a journal? We'll need to know more to help you Sandy?

Do you feel like you are using the band as a tool or are you eating around your band with slider foods? Losing weight is basically a mathematical equation if you use the band properly. Consume fewer calories than you burn. Most of us use about 2000 calories per day or 14,000 per week. If you can just cut that to 1500 you will burn 7 X 500=3500 calories burned or 1 lb of fat lost. If you ramp up your exercise program just a little you can burn an extra 300 X 7=2100 calories per week. Those two would add up to about 6 lbs per month.

Now if it were only that easy no one would complain. But we all know that medical issues and family issues can derail the best plan. But, still we should all be able to lose 4 lbs per month if we follow the plan. And I looked at your profile and it seems like somewhere along the line you were doing well? What happened?

Thanks for the support everyone. I do keep a food journal on myfittnesspal.com. I have increased my walking to 3 miles and I bought a more difficult aerobic video. My next step is to get back to the dr. for a fill. I don't feel any restriction when i eat and am probably eating a little more than I should.

I'm going to try and check in more often. Thanks again for the support.

Sandy

You got this Sandy. I'm sure with a visit to Dr. and tell him of your struggles they can help. Do you have a support group close by that you can attend? My health network has them at least twice a month. Alot of good support there!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
