Is it your partner or kids bringing in the food and offering it up to you? Sounds to me like there might be additional family members going to jump on the Bariatric bandwagon and be headed for surgery if they do not get their food choices in order.

When I had the surgery I had to deal with a spouse that brought in the HUGE candy bars, the ones that broke down and are good for making smores for quite a few people. He would make stops at the store, when we had just gone to the store to pick up Ice Cream, and other tasty cakes and hostess cakes, chips and dip. He would b***h about my weight and how I needed to lose to become a size 2 that he always wanted, but he married me when I was a 16/18 go figure. After dealing with all this for awhile, losing my Mom to Cancer I bailed 8 months after LB surgery and filed for divorce. I thought enough of myself to move on and live life the way I wanted to. I left in April of 09.. then made my way back to California.

I am in a fantastic relationship with a really awesome guy that loves me thick or thin! I just got a refill and doing my thing with excellent support from him on my band eating lifestyle. He loves to cook and looks for good band recipes, he splits meals with me, we limit the bad stuff in the house. I am not perfect and if I choose to have something I am not berated for it, I just jump back on the wagon.

I have found that getting the band brings out alot of things good and bad in family/ so called friends and sometimes you even find a supporter in an unlikely place.

Rise above it, go hang out in your bedroom and read. Make it your NO Food zone, and they need to keep out. Remember 20-30 minutes for a meal... no more of the 5 hours to finish a sandwich!

OH.. i forgot... the BIG thing is:::::

Forgive yourself!!

Tomorrow is another day, or heck you can start with the next bite of food you put in your mouth!

Another helpful hint if everyone is so intent on eating alot of chocolate etc.. if you want to really teach those candy eaters a lesson.. get some chocolate covered insects (for human consumption) and put them in a bowl.

They are lovely to look at, colorfully wrapped! We had a girl in school who used to beg for food, take stuff from us without asking just be a real bitchy pill with her attitude.

We got a few of those and laid them out, and right on target she snagged some without asking and promptly started to devour them in one swoop! She ended up in the sink rinsing her mouth out asking what the heck was the candy. We said they are chocolate covered ants... she was upset and asked why didn't you tell me we said well 'You didn't ask"

Case solved we never saw her eat any other candy near us.

I really am not a mean person!!! Evidently some people really like them!

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
