Thanks so much. Do most doctors require you to do a pre op diet?

Thanks so much. Do most doctors require you to do a pre op diet?

Congrats! Most Doctors require some sort of pre-op diet, it may vary on the length. But since I've been on LBT I have also now found that some Doctors don't require a diet. I wish my didn't, lol. I start my Pre-Op diet liquid diet tomorrow, my Pre-Op appt. is on June 6th, and my surgery is June 14th. Keep us posted!

I think most require a 2 week Protein Shake diet. It helps shrink the size of your liver so the surgeon can access the top of the stomach with fewer complications. My doctor gave me 4 meal tickets during the 2 weeks so I could have 4 high Protein, low fat meals during that time. You'll get thru it. Remember it's only 2 weeks!

Wow!!! That is great to hear about the 4 ticket meals. I'm from western Mass. And my Doc. Is through Mercy Hospital in Springfield. And I to had the two week pre op liquid diet. But my doc just gave my instructions with pure liquids! Today marks the first week I finished pure liquids. And it isn't easy I am irritable at times and I think I am past the I miss chewing phase but I do miss food.....idk I think that if I didn't have the support I have this probably would have been unbearable.....today I came home from work to roses and cards telling me how proud my family is of me and how much of an inspiration I have been. I have to hold onto things like that because there are def moments during the day where I struggle. But all I can say is when I forget I just open my eyes a little wider and take in what is around me and listen to what people are saying and I know I can do this.

Congrats! Every doctors pre op is different from how long, to what you can/can't eat. I've seen anywhere from 4 weeks- to one week pre op, I've seen one,two lean meals to nothing but shake.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
