frozen dinners?

Recommended Posts

Was wondering....how lmuch of a frozen meal can you eat? Can we eat the whole thing, or just 1/2 cup? I am so confused about this measuring thing.
I have proper restriction and can only consume about 1/3 of the the Lean Cuisine frozen dinners. I hope this helps. :)

Does this mean I don't have proper restriction if I can eat the whole thing? I haven't had one in several months, but as I recall I ate a whole lean cuisine sesame chicken and really enjoyed it. It was the size of an entree. Is there a difference?

Not necessarily, no. Everyone is different and your restriction level could be different from mine. I just know that when I have proper restriction, I stay full for 4-5 hours and average a loss of 2 lbs. per week. :)

As far as the size of the entree, the Lean Cuisine I purchase averages between 8 and 9 oz. each.

I but the small "lean cusines" and can eat the whole thing. I love the meatloaf and mac and cheese. They are about 210 - 270 calories and they are great for lunches. I really can not eat anything from fast food palces any more and that seems to be what everyone in my office does for lunch.< /p>

FYI: I live in the south and right now (this week) Kroger stores has the W/W Smart ones for $1.00 - but you have to buy 10 to get them for a buck each.

Anyway, some of my fav's are:

1. Grilled chicken in Garlic Herb Sauce 180 cal., 10 carbs, 19g protien

2. Creamy Parmesan chicken 210 cal., 12 carbs, 23g protien

3. Turkey Medallion W/ mushroom grav. 200 cal., 11 carbs, 18g protien

I also like the salsbury steak one.

What I do is look at the pic on the box and if there isnt anything like potatoes, rice, noodles - then I know its safe for me to eat. These 3 things give the dinner more cal's and carbs (everyone knows this already) - plus its virtually impossible for me to get these past my band. :)

So if the pic is band friendly, usually the cal/carb list is too.

*I always add a dash of cajun seasoning to my dinners - this helps make ANYTHING tasty!*

Question....I can eat most anything....I eat about all of those south beach diet Breakfast wraps for breakfast..I know this cannot be right. I eat small portions mostly, but can eat anything. I have had 2 fills and am at 2.8 cc I feel completely like this band is not doing much. Is something wrong with me?

Stacey,

Each of us are different.

I remember Alexandrea saying that SHE can eat ANYTHING as long as the bites were small enough.

Most of us must avoid these soft doey (rice, pasta) foods, but some dont!

There's thing wrong with ya!

Heyas Stacy(s) hehe

When I was just getting back on solid food, I wanted meatloaf so badly that I bought a Healthy Choice meal. I could only eat about 1/3 of the meatloaf and all of the mashed potatoes. The rest went in the garbage. Now, I only buy the HC meals that have a meat and mashed potatoes or rice. I eat all of it for luch. If I have one at dinner, I might add 1/2 cup of green Beans or peas to it. But then I'm stuffed for the night. :(

I eat most of my meals in a 7/8C Glad reusable container. Using the small size bowl really helps. I typically can eat that full of food at dinner time, but earlier in the day.. probably no more than 3/4 full. I was having problems remembering to eat my Proteins first but using this container has helped. I put my veggies on the bottom and the meat on top of them, so I have to eat through the Protein to get to the carbs.

Hope that helped.

Hmmm...this is defintely food for thought (no pun intended).

I was just finishing a whole frozen meal when I ran into this thread. (Michelina's Lean Gourmet, by the way, because it is pretty good and CHEAP!) Geez, will this thing ever work? *sigh*

The idea of putting your entire meal in one container with the Protein on the top and veggies on the bottom, so you have to "eat through the protein to get to the carbs" is a great idea!!

I can never eat a full frozen dinner. Sometimes not even a half. I do try to start with my protien and follow up with veggies. Certain things just do not go down well for me and yet my daughters' (all 3 of us banded the same day) will have no problem. This is a very unique and individual thing. What works for some, fails for others.

Might I suggest that you try not to look at "how much" you can eat, but "how little" you can eat without feeling deprived? PB'ing is no fun!

Good luck to you all....Dreamer

I have recently discovered the South Beach Frozen Dinners. I can eat the ones with Pasta, green Beans, and even the pizza late in the day. I can NOT eat the ones with broccoli or rice, and have to remove the pepperoni from the pizza.

They have a really good pork dinner with green Beans, and one with chicken and green beans. I can eat these by lunch time (11:30 am).

Hope this helps.

Hey SK

If you TRULY feel like the band isn't doing much, then get another fill.

Don't get all caught up in how many cc's you already have. There is no "right answer" when it comes to how many cc's you need for good restriction. I have a VG band with 8.5 cc's - other VG band patients get restriction at 6 cc's, or 9 cc's... it's all relative to the individual with the band.

If you don't cease to be hungry after a cup of food, (notice I didn't say if you don't feel FULL, I said if you don't stop being hungry) if you get hungry soon after eating, like within an hour or two, then you probably need a fill.

Don't hesitate to get one. And if you don't get good restriction after that one, get another. Sometimes it takes many attempts to get the restriction you need.

I have what I think is pretty perfect restriction...I can eat anything I want, if I take small enough bites and chew it really well. I cease to be hungry after about a cup of food (sometimes less) and then I don't get hungry again for hours and hours. Of course, I have to keep myself from continuing to eat after I am sated... that whole Self Control issue - but it's a lot easier to do when you sincerly aren't hungry any more.

You might be .2 cc away from perfection, or you might need a full cc plus. Just keep on getting fills until you get restriction. But beware of getting too tight... the complications start when the band is too tight for too long.

Hugs and Good Luck!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
