Does The Monthly Visitor Lead To A Famished Feeling

Recommended Posts

Hey ladies...I was banded on 4/26 and on Monday started my period...fun stuff. Yesterday I was STARVING. I felt like I could eat everything set before me. I really tried to eat lots of Protein and drink lots of Water but that seemed to "go" right through me. I am hopeing this famished feeling is normal for a couple of days and then i will get back to the new normal of feeling full after a small meal. All comments wil be appreciated and hopefully I will be better able to deal with this next month. Thanks in advance.

For me it's normal. Some months are worse than others. Last week I just had this craving. I really don't keep any junk food in my house but remembered some white and milk chocolate chips that I used in Christmas Cookies that were in the fridge. I took them out and ate about 6 of each with a couple walnuts and thought "this isn't that good". And stopped eating them. My TOM isn't as predictable as it once was (42) so I usually have to look back and say Oh that's why I was so hungry.

The first time I had my period after banding, I was starving. This last time, I've been pretty ok. I am on new BC (nuva ring) and had very light bleeding so maybe that's it...

The first few months I was banded, my TOM threw me for a loop, but then I got used to it and now I know what to expect.

the day before and the first day of my period, I can't eat a thing. everything nauseates the heck out of me....then, on the 2nd and 3rd day of my period, I am like i was pre-banding. i can eat and eat and eat. nothing fills me up, i crave everything. by the 4th day (usually the last day) i get back to normal. The 2nd and 3rd day of my period I usually reserve for my wine drinking and copious amounts of chocolate eating :P

it all evens out and i actually don't gain any weight during that time. probably the 2 days of not eating even out the 2 days of non-stop eating. i dunno, but that's what happens to me.

Almost 3 years since banding and I stuggle with hunger every month. This is truly one of the worst parts!!! HATE IT!! I think I am one of the few who can't wait for menopause.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
