pbmls223 10 Posted May 30, 2012 Ok, for those of you vets of this surgery I'm looking for advice. I'm talking have walked through the band surgery awhile ago and are well on the other side now. I had my surgery on 5/21, so I'm technically 9 days post-op now. I'm just wondering if the pain I'm having is normal vs. something I need to call about. I tend to lean on the hypocondriac side and I don't want to be one of those patients at this doctor's office. I'm still new to them I'm having quite a bit of pain when I'm doing slight rolls from my back to my right side and sometimes certain points on my abdomen (not even necessarily where my port is) hurts to the touch. There's no extra redness, heat or drainage that would indicate infection, that's why I'm assuming it's all normal. But even just sitting here it is a bit "twingy". Just looking for a bit of advice. m1aman 944 Posted May 30, 2012 All I can say is that I didn't have any port pain. I had lots of back pain, but no port pain. I don't even remember it being tender to the touch. Though I am sure it was for a least a few days. It wouldn't hurt to make a phone call and talk to the nurse. Let her decide if it is worth mentioning to the doctor. Just my view. Hope you feel better.
pbmls223 10 Posted May 30, 2012 Just to make my situation a little more difficult, my NP, is out on maternity leave basically until my appt next week. So, I'd end up dealing w/the "new girl" who is ok, but she's nothing like my NP, ya know? Ok, I'll quit complaining at 4 am.
Daddyof4 95 Posted May 30, 2012 Hi pbmls223. I was banded on May 21 also and am having similar pains that you describe. I have a small amount of swelling just to the right of the port incision (at 11:00 with navel as center) that is tender to the touch. When I lay on my left side the port area hurts and I cannot lay on my right side at all yet. I called and they asked if it was red and infected-looking which it is not. I was told this is quite normal but the PA will check it out Thursday at my appt. Yours sounds normal too based on what I was told. Hang in there; I hope your checkup goes well. neece1 3 Posted May 30, 2012 Hi guys, I was banded on 5/21 also and am having the same pain. Slight bending over gives me a sharp pain on my left side and to touch it is tender. Not red or draining just sore.
Buffalogyrl 17 Posted May 30, 2012 I m 3 weeks post today. I saw my Dr yesterday because of port pain. He reminded me that my port is attached to my muscle and I appear to be a little more sensitive than others. He acknowledged that the area is inflamed but no sign of infection and told me that I could take children's liquid motion o get the inflammation down, stressing to take it with food. I went home took my my yummy grape flavored Motrin and iced my belly and I definitely feel better today. I do wonder if I will always feel my port, I hope not. kll724 3,055 Posted May 30, 2012 Dear Newbies, slight pain is normal. Excessive pain is not! But, pain from rolling, bending, lifting, etc, is to be expected; they did surgery on your stomach area and you are swollen, too! Take is easy on yourself, this is healing time. Good luck, Karen
pbmls223 10 Posted May 30, 2012 Thanks all! See I told you I tend to lean on the hypochondriac side of life I thought I was ok, but wanted to see how everyone else was or had done. Sounds like I might be on similar roads. I was icing the area but have in several days. Sounds like I need to do that again.
