I had surgery on Friday so I'm 5 days in. All went well and I have not had the least bit of interest in food --- until today. Suddenly my 400 calorie days (cuz that's all I could manage) seem to have caught up, and my mind is on food. I haven't done anything crazy - I don't want to jeopardize my healing - but I'm feeling sad and down. I feel like I'm mourning the loss of something I've turned to for so long. And today I cannot wrap my head around the nevers - I'm probably never gonna eat bread/steak/a burger... again. I am going to get in some more Protein today, drink my Water, and try to stay positive. But I was wondering if anyone else has felt a sense of loss or despair so early in the process... Thanks guys :(

I had the worries about not being able to eat certain foods, but really I think I blew it out of proportion. I have had two fills and feel pretty good at my restriction level and am still able to eat most everything (the only thing that I won't eat now is cheap white breads, doughy breads). Don't get too worried about it :)

I'd much rather be healthy than eating bread...

Yes! theres some days that i miss certain foods that i use to be able to eat that now i cant eat because they get stuck. As you progress further in your journey you will kind of get a feel for what you can and cant tolerate. Honestly im glad i cant eat bread and other high carb products after all they are what helped make me over weight!

you do feel like you suffer a great deal of loss once you start getting filled and not feeling so hungry it will pass best of luck to you and just try to keep doing what your doing.

I'm right there with you! I had my surgery the friday before you (5/18) and the first time I felt hunger was on the following Thursday. Now I'm hungry a lot, and it's real hunger. Having a Protein Shake, a cup of Jello and broth is not filling me up. I feel like I've been "cheating" lately and need to regain my focus. I think we just need to get to the first fill. Apparently this time is called "bandster hell" because you don't have restriction from the fill. I keep telling myself it will get easier. Maybe you can keep that first fill as your first short term goal. If I am down 15-20 lbs they I will be happy. My surgeon said "maybe you will lost weight, maybe you won't, but don't let it discourage you."

There is a big misconception that you'll never be able to eat some foods again, like bread. Some people do have issues, but not all.

I have a lot of restriction and can still eat anything I want, including bread.

Keep your chin up, it gets easier.

Don't worry about not ever being able to eat anything... I need a fill and I can pretty much eat whatever I want right now... bread, dumplings, even a Gummy bear that i chewed pretty well... I think when you have real restriction you won't be able to eat some of that stuff, but when you need a fill, you can eat... You may lose slower if you do indulge, but it takes away that "I can NEVER have" fear...

Everyday will be a "struggle/choice" for those who have opted for surgical assistance with food. I am out 16 weeks and Im having more better days than bad. Remember to be consistent with food choices. I recently took some days off, and boy was I not ready for them. It seems to be easier to be at work, and eat on schedule than at home. I have to go back to work to get my diet back on schedule

good luck~

Thanks you guys - staying positive and really appreciative of all the support and positive words!

By the way, I had some Greek yogurt and I'm not so hungry anymore! :)

Hi, I’m new here. I’m currently on the liver shrinking diet. So far so good, but I have to say I haven’t found a protein shake I like. Anyone have any suggestions please? My surgery date is September 17th.

Fairlife Core are by far the best. They taste just as they are - chocolate milk. You can either get the 26 grams or the 42 grams (harder to find and more expensive). For straight protein look at Bulksuppliments.com ..they have really good whey proteins and offer auto ship plus they test for purity. No taste or smell...

Fairlife has strawberry, vanilla and of course chocolate. No more calories than other protein drinks. Stay away from Premiere, they're dealing with lawsuits due to not being honest about protein content.
