FYI: whey is from milk, so if you have lactose problems stay away from whey. (I use whey)

The problem is you don't know what you will be able to tolerate until you are already banded. I would have loved to get in all my Protein from actual food sources, but I am very sensitive to many foods. I can not tolerate many forms of Protein including dense meats and eggs. It just has to be figured out as you go. That being said, .....love my band :)

You could be forgiven for thinking that a high Protein low carb diet and Protein powders are an integral part of a successful lap band experience, but that is not the case.

In Australia, it is not part of the general prescriptive diet, rather we are told to eat a very balanced diet from all major food groups. bread, cereals and Pasta and rice are not frowned upon but of course, the focus is on fresh fruit and vegetables, with adequate protein.

I've bought Protein powder once or twice, for a quick Breakfast, but the fact is, for me, I think it tastes like crap, its not satisfying, and I usually end up turfing out the tub. I cannot reconcile that a sweet tasting, man made food is really part of learning to eat a proper diet - I personally think we need to get over the taste for that sort of thing and learn to eat food in its natural state.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
