Get my first fill tomorrow after 4/20 surgery (yay). I know I've been reading you go on liquids after and kind of start over in phases but I don't recall if you have to do anything different before during day. Should you fast x hours before or eat liquid before? Thanks

When I got my first fill... I didn't have to do anything restrictive. I chose not to eat or drink anything a few hours before but I don't believe that is mandated.

No you don't have to fast before the fill, but afterwards yes because of swelling you go back on liquids for a day or two. Good luck you are well on your way to a healthy you :)

Not unless your surgeon has advised you to do so. Mine doesn't so I eat normally (for a bandster!) until fill time then go onto liquids/mushies for the next 24 - 48 hours.

The fill won't affect what you have already eaten so I can't see why you need special dietary instructions before (but nothing I say here overrides instructions from your medical team!)

If you have a Upper GI before, I would recommend not eating for a while before. When I went in for my first fill, I had to do an upper GI first and no one had told me no food. Luckily I had eaten about 4 hours before and the food was cleared from the pouch.

I had my first fill on May 21, 2012 and I didn't have any special instructions prior to my fill. I had read some posts where people didn't eat several hours prior to the fill, so I chose to have a shake for Breakfast and nothing after that prior to the fill. I don't know if that helped or made a difference at all. I wish your a success ful fill, let met know if you have any restriction.

I had my first fill Thursday. I was told no food four hours prior. Afterwards liquid until I was comfortable to eat. Lucky I had no swelling.

I always told too not to eat 3 hours before a fill. I have drank Water and that was not a problem before a fill. My Dr. After the fill tells me to have liquids for 2 days so I have Soup.< /p>

Thanks much. They hadn't told me anything but seemed like not eating for a while before would be right way to go. It's not until 4:15 so I just won't eat after lunch. Thanks

My doc says no solid food (liquids only) for 2 hrs prior. Then liquids only for 24 hrs - then a normal diet.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
