Delayed Digestion?

Recommended Posts

Hello all!

For the past week, I've been running into a weird problem that I haven't had before. I've been throwing up like every other meal. But the weird thing is that I am not throwing up until hours after I eat. It's so strange!

Normally, if there is an actual band problem, I'll throw up incredibly soon after eating. I'm also noticing that when I throw up at night, I have food and drinks still in my stomach from really early in the morning. It definitely still shouldn't be in my stomach.

And it's legitimate vomit, not just the "spit up" that normally gets choked up if my band is acting up.

Does anybody have any idea what could be causing this? I don't know why food is staying in the lower part of my stomach so long! Could it have anything to do with the band?

Thanks!

Elizabeth

I don't know but it sounds serious. Are you nauseous before you throw up? Could you be pregnant? I would check in with your doctor. Actual vomiting is dangerous for the band as it can cause slips.

I agree with shauna this isnt normal and u need to seek medical help as soon as u can. I am sure this wont have anything to do with the band but u never know, being physically sick as against the stuck sliming sick is not good for the band and can cause some slippage so u need to try and get this sorted out asap.

food can stay in your main stomach up to 8 hrs sometimes longer, as a normal part of digestion .. good luck :)

This doesn't sound band related. Maybe you have some kind of food intolerance or an issue with your digestive system. You need to go and get it checked out.

I think it's just part of living with the band--a band that could possibly be too tight, but not necessarily so. If things get kind-of stuck without actually getting completely stuck, they can stay above the band in your "little stomach" for quite some time. I often get what I call "the sieve effect" where the little bits and liquids keep on going down, but the bigger chunk(s) do not. It's confusing because you still don't feel ok, but it seems that things are still going down. HOURS later I've thrown up the offending bit(s) and am instantly all better. Also, it sometimes takes being horizontal (ie. in bed at night) for the offending bit to move off the stoma before I can throw it up. I'm sure that there are those on this board that would say all of that is proof that you're too tight...to them I would say "maybe.". I've had this band for 3 years and I'm still learning--46 years of gulping my food is a hard habit to break. Some days some things I've never had a problem with are suddenly a problem--and visa-versa. I've also had partial unfills when it seems ALL I ever do is throw up. But occasionally...no...it's unpleasant, but just part of the learning experience for me. Good luck.

One more thought though--you said it was "true vomit"--do you mean to say that it has stomach bile in it? What I was referring to does NOT have stomach bile in it--it's still just saliva and chewed up food. Stomach bile (from your lower stomach) mixed in with the food--THAT sounds serious.

It could be illeus (basically the GI tract stops moving). I'm not exactly sure of the cause. I've seen a few cases of dogs having it (yes people can get it too). In fact a month or two ago my dog had it, she vomited food that she had eaten 11 hours previously. Which I got very concerned about since the stomach should empty in a few hours. A few days of reglan and she was fine.

Hi, I’m new here. I’m currently on the liver shrinking diet. So far so good, but I have to say I haven’t found a protein shake I like. Anyone have any suggestions please? My surgery date is September 17th.

Fairlife Core are by far the best. They taste just as they are - chocolate milk. You can either get the 26 grams or the 42 grams (harder to find and more expensive). For straight protein look at Bulksuppliments.com ..they have really good whey proteins and offer auto ship plus they test for purity. No taste or smell...

Fairlife has strawberry, vanilla and of course chocolate. No more calories than other protein drinks. Stay away from Premiere, they're dealing with lawsuits due to not being honest about protein content.
