Feeling So Guilty About What I've Been Eating

Recommended Posts

I was banded on 05/18, and up until Saturday (one week out) was doing very well with it. I went out to eat with my family on Saturday and ate a little bit of chili and then again on Sunday I ate some tuna. I am suppose to be on a "thick liquid diet" for 3 weeks but chili and tuna aren't liquid. That tuna was so good that I ate tuna again Monday and again today. I am feeling so guilty about it and am now reading all this info about if you "cheat" during your first few weeks then there are chances of slippage and the pouch above the band expanding. Now I'm scared and regretting all that I ate. I'm not over-eating, I'm just suppose to be on liquids for another week and a half, but I find myself so hungry!!

Well, there's nothing you can do about it now, so just relax and go back to the stage you're supposed to be at. You'll be okay!

If you are physically hungry (not head hungry) eat more of what you are supposed to eat. So eat more broth or smooth Soups (like Tomato or squash) and Protein Shakes. Don't eat solids. Yes you can damage the band at this point. Stop NOW.

Drink more of your liquids more often, during this phase it is not about losing weight but about giving your body time to heal. You may not want to hear this but some people even gain weight during this early phase because what they want us to eat is higher in calories. Just forgive, forget and move foreward. This is a new process, cut yourself some slack you will get the hang of it.

Each surgeon is different but at week two I was told I could have soft

meats like tuna fish and ground meat. I don't think you did any damage. I am with true results and they do thousands of proceedures and so it cannot be that bad.

The diet differences sure can be confusing! I'm on day 5 and had tuna (puréed to a pulp) yesterday to try and boost my Protein. Do you think it's the type of food (tuna versus say squash) that matters, or the consistency? Cuz, although I didn't, I could have probably sucked my "tuna mush" through a straw. I am following my doctors plan --- how can they be so dramatically different?!!! Confusing...

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
