Wasn't me, but my surgeon postponed one of my fill appointments because he was called in to assist another surgeon operating on a patient whose liver was too large. My surgeon made the call and this patient's surgery was cancelled - after he had been put under and incisions made. In other words, the patient woke up with incisions, gas in the belly but no band.

What i do not get is the ones that do not have to do any diet then. Why two weeks for some and others none. How is their liver shrinking then?

My surgeon did not require a liquid diet. They said they just don't do it. I ate healthy for 3 months prior to my surgery and two weeks prior I did 1000 calorie diet. The key is that your liver is not full of fat. I was even waived from doing that becasue I was already counting calories and was doing 1200 calories. The pre op diet for us was designed for people who eat a lot of fat and high calorie food to start getting used to eating differently. The fact that none of my doctors patients had to do a liquid diet,

Proves that every doctor is different. Whatever your surgeon says, do your research and unless it sounds totally crazy, you have to follow what they say. I can't say I missed that liquid diet, I did fine with what I did. Good luck!

Yeah, every surgeon is different. I did a 1200 calorie diet (3-8 oz Protein Shakes, 1/2 cup of fruit, 1 fat free yogurt, 1 lean cuisine and 1 cup of salad w/1 tbsp of lite dressing) for 8 days and then Clear Liquids for the 2 days prior to surgery.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
