Use it if you have it! I could tell a differnce in my lung capacity after surgery. I used it for over a week until I didn't have any pain when using it.

I had Lapband surgery on Friday and my doctor forgot to give me the spirometer!! I was all drugged up so I didn't even think about it' date=' I was perfectly fine until last night I started coughing and whezzing!! This morning I walked my son to school and almost passed out because I was not breathing correctly! I called the doctor and he told me that's why I gave you the spirometer to avoid breathing issues!! I said I'm sorry but I think you forgot to give it to me!! Long story short, now I'm sitting in a hospital bed getting breathing treatments every 2-4 hours!! So please avoid this if you are having surgery don't forget the spirometer!! :-/

After surgery, you are groggy from anesthetic and your post-op nurse would have had you using it in the hospital and made sure you took it home with you. Generally the person who takes you home is given your personal items, the discharge paperwork and instructions and any devices (spirometer). Some people don't need a spirometer...I had one for my banding surgery because I had hiatal hernia repair...breathing was painful. Regardless, the nursing staff should have made sure you had it at discharge and given instructions for its use to you responsible person. The doctor only prescribes it...

Hope you feel better soon!

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
