Question About A Fill

Recommended Posts

I havent had a fill yet, i get one june 6th. I have been losing weight actually 4 pounds this week. It is taking will power and eating 1200 calories a day. Will the dr still give you a fill if you are starting to get hunger between meals but still losing.

All Docs are different. Probably yes. If you are losing weight and it's because you feel full or are easily satisfied with 1-1/2 cup of food the doctor may not give you a fill since you are already feeling restriction or satiety. But if you are losing weight out of sheer will power, I don't see why the doctor would not give you a fill. Just make sure the Doc knows how you are losing? You should now be at a point where you are in bandster hell and are very hungry all the time? Let the doc know.

I would say yes, make sure you make it clear that it is will power that is getting you by.

I will do that. Sometimes i can go 3-4 hours between a meal but other times it feels that im getting hungry sooner and i need a snack. I think im eating around a cup or cup in a half. If it does give me one it should be a small one, think thats all i neef righg now. Thanks

My surgeon routinely will do a patient's first fill about 6-8 weeks post op, and then every 6 weeks until you arrive at your "green zone".

It has been 3 months since my surgery, and due to medical complications, I have yet to have my first fill. The doctor admitted to me that my weight loss percentage is well above average for his patients, but he also said that I need to loose at a faster rate.

Every doctor approaches their practice a bit differently, but you should have your concerns addressed. I am also scheduled to have my first fill on June 6!

You can count yourself as one of the lucky ones because at 3 weeks out I was super hungry and I could eat just as much as I could before surgery. That's why I needed 6 fills to get to this point. And of course, my surgery was 11/28/11 so I was hungry right in the middle of the Holiday season. But, through will power I managed to not gain any of the 12 lbs I had already lost. Sounds like you are right where you need to be.

Sojourner, have you lost all that weight(58) since surgery? Or is some of it part of pre-op? Either way, it's outrageously fine. I'd like some of those complications.

12 pounds of my total weight loss was from the pre-op diet...

I would not wish anyone to have the complications I have experienced; I have been hospitalized 2 times since my band surgery. They are still running tests to determine if I will need to have another surgery related to my weight loss.

The sad irony to this is that I chose to have the Band surgery because I wanted to improve my health. I have been in the hospital more times in the past 3 months since my surgery than I have my entire adult life!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
