susanbee1964 0 Posted June 8, 2012 I'm two years post-op. Initially I did not drink pop but probably six months after surgery I started to. I have found that everyone's surgeon has different answers to our many questions. I have decided to go with what works for me. I also came across Dr. Simpson's web page (Arizona clinic - not my doctor) and I found what he said about pop/soda interesting...check it out...I definitely agree when he says that sometimes pop will help unstick something which has worked for me. pinky_303 0 Posted June 10, 2012 My doctor told be that I can't have anything carbonated. The reason I can't is because it can cause nerve damage to your esophagus-The carbonation sits on top of the band and expands the esophagus. I also can't have caffeine because again it sits on top of the band and it can cause stomache ulcers. To me the risks aren't worth having any caffeine of carbonation. Plus it's just not good for weight loss!
1shauna1 129 Posted June 10, 2012 I can have caffeine, no problem. I think the main concern there is if you drink too much it can help dehydrate you. I love my morning coffee, and the rest of the day is spent with water/Mio/ etc. I have had soda since. I just find depending on the day, the bubbles can irritate. I don't have it too often, and I don't worry about it!
