Does anyone regret getting the Lapband? Does anyone feel that the band was preached to you as a magic fix instead of a tool for weightloss?

I was banded in December of 2009 and regret getting it done more than not. I quickly lost weight, 105 pounds in 4 months, I felt I was on top of the world. 2 fills later, after telling my surgeon it was too tight I gained it all back. I feel that it was brought into a more "this is the answer" light instead of a "this is another diet but with an extra tool" light.

I realize gaining the weight back was my fault, but I do feel kind of cheated by not being fully told that this wasn't a magic fix.

I've had complications ever since I got banded, and that, accompanied with a poor surgeon with horrible bedside manner (who wasn't like that before the surgery) I feel I'm a Lapband failure, however I am grateful that I do have this tool inside of me for the day that comes when I do decide and do have the willpower to diet if I get to keep the band after the major problems I'm having now.

I am 20 weeks pregnant now and have lost 28 pounds since becoming pregnant.

I don't want to be judged for the things I've said so please don't be harsh I just wanted to know if I was the only one who regrets having it done?

I'm only about 10 days post op but I don't think I've ever been so sure of something in my life, besides marrying my husband! I did tons of research prior though, and everyone stressed along the way that the band is a helpful tool. It was not a magical thing that will just melt the lbs off. I needed a life change.

Im sorry if you feel deceived. It sounds like you did amazing at first. Maybe start over? Get an unfill and meet with a nutritionist?

I'm only 6 months into this journey and so far I'm quite pleased. I don't think anyone told me that this was a magic pill. I know they didn't. I was told many times how difficult it would be and how much weight I could expect to lose. I chose to wear my rose colored glasses and hoped I would be one of the bandsters who lost 10+ lbs evey month. That hasn't happened as reality has now set in and after being on this forum I now understand so much more.

Your journey sounds different from most I've heard. It's still hard to believe that somewhere at some other seminar, support group, nutritionist or this forum that someone didn't mention how hard this is going to be? I know that I too am guilty of hearing what I wanted to hear and I really believed this would be easier than it has been, but I was told and I read it here and saw it on youtube as well as from two nutritionists that this would be difficult and it was up to me to make it work.

Some Dr's are asses and sounds like you found one. That's really unfortunate but some Dr's will take on patients who have had surgery elsewhere you know?

I just wanted to say congratulations on your pregnancy! I doubt I will have more kids due to my age but I think that is the blessing of the band is that you can get pregnant and have all Fluid removed so you can still nourish you unborn child. Maybe after your baby is born you can find another doctor to work with and you might find that you don't regret it. If you do have it removed. That is why I choose the band for the fact Its reversible. Good luck to you!

I have no regrets. I did the research before going into this and I knew the Lap-Band is a tool not a magic fix. I knew I'd have to change my eating habits for a lifetime. I've lost 96 pounds in just under 5 months and feel better than I have in many years. It's worth the work tenfold and I'd do it again in a heartbeat.

Once your baby is safely born, I would start over. If you feel your surgeon is incompetent, find a new one to start over with. I'd also meet with a nutrionist to get a solid eating plan in place. You already have the tool, why not use it?

It sucks that you weren't made aware of the bands limitations and what was expected of you before banding. I love my band and am 100% sure of it.

Have you found a new Dr?

In 2009 the education may have been very different. Today, however they stress over and over it is just a tool.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Your so close now! It's gonna be great :) Wishing you a speedy recovery and looking forward to seeing how it goes!

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

Am feeling this right now. My surgery date is 4/1. Sign the consent tomorrow. I feel like I overloaded myself with too much info, too many opinions. Got to the point where I was wondering if I should do this. Then I thought of my reasons for taking this step and that settled my nerves. Still get moments of doubt but am striving forward. Am just going to follow my book from the surgeon. Joined this because I was told by my dietician that I should do this for support
