evewinston 1 Posted May 28, 2012 I was banded on the 24th of May and I'm 5 days post op and I'm having a hardtime.... My appetite is nonexististing, I been sipping on Water, v8, I tried to get down a Protein Shake but I wasn't able to get much down. My sense of smell is going crazy I feel sick at the stomach if I smell foods, perfume, etc. my whole system seems out of whack. I haven't had a bm yet, I still find myself vomiting which I know is bad. I don't know if my abdominal pains are gas are is it from not getting enough food down. I thought I was going to be one of the lucky ones who were back at work in a few days. Im still trying to have a positive outlook on my decision to get banded, but with every passing hour of discomfort, dout is slowly creeping in... Not to mention I'm afraid of slippage because of the vomiting... I just guess I need for someone to tell me this is part of the healing process.
Pollyanna12 74 Posted May 28, 2012 It's ok. Everyone heals differently. Try to keep Water and some regular Gatorade in you. I would be afraid the v8 may be too acidic but if it goes down - drink it. But if it goes down drink it! Maybe you can get Jello down. the vomiting is a concern though. Call the nurses at your dog's office in the morning they may have some ideas. Good luck. Hopeful to be full 11 Posted May 28, 2012 one suggestion that might help is drinking some Protein Water. You can get this powder you add to water that gives you protein (a.k.a. fuel for your system). Kellogg's make this and so does the company designer whey. You can find it @ target or groccerys stores in the the aisle with the Protein Shakes, and dietary food and supplements. i agree with the above that if u continue to vomit and dry heave u need to call your doc. as for the bm, i had problems with that too it's from being dehydrating and the aneastesia drugs. take Fiber or Miralax if u continue to have problems. i hope you feel better soon! I had to move away from shakes and eat things like Greek yogurt. It was that or feel like I was literally dying. Be patient, I too thought I would be back to work in 3 days and that turned into 8 days. Please be gentle with yourself and stay hydrated. buffalogyrl
daisychains7 427 Posted May 28, 2012 Did they send you home with anti nausea meds? That helped me a lot the first few days. You just had a major surgery 5 days ago and your bowels are going to be moving slow for a while. Try peppermint tea. I would call the Dr about the vomiting just to be safe. Its been three weeks since my surgery but every few days I have a brief low moment where I wonder what I did to myself. Try to remember the first 6 weeks is for healing. Life with the band will not be like this forever.

Cocoabean 430 Posted May 28, 2012 The pain meds can cause nausea and vomiting. Were you given anti-nausea meds? If not, call your surgeon and ask for a prescription. Slowly sip Water, you don't want to get dehydrated, THAT is more important than Protein at this point.
