My little stomach and my big stomach are fighting!

Recommended Posts

Hey everyone...I got my third fill last Friday...and WOW what a difference. I feel like I am starting all over again learning to eat with this new restriction. My question to the veterans out there is this- my new stomach feels full- but my lower stomach doesn't. Does it take time for the stomachs to talk to each other? That sounds silly- but it feels like that is what is happening. Also- I can't tell I'm full...will I get some clue as I get more and more used to the band being tight?

Thanks in advance...and best of luck everyone!!

Megan,

Yep, it does, it really does!

Your lower stomach will shrink in time and soon you'll notice a new harmony with fullness.

I distinctly remember that frustration though. I would feel in pain from pressure but no SATISFYING sense of full.

My theory is that with time we learn to chew well enough to allow just enough to drop into the bottom stomach to give us both the pressure of being full enough food in the bigger stomach to give us the warm fuzzies of satisfaction.

So, yes, in time they do learn to communicate better .

That is so good to know. I have been struggling with that also....I guess I am not chewing well enough because I am so hungry.

I remember having that sensation a few times in the early months, but I don't get it anymore. Kind of a weird feeling.

You may also want to try drinking some Water before you start eating to fill up that lower stomach.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
