Hi - I'm Alison. I got banded on Friday (5/25) and just wanted to check in and join the group. My experience so far:

Surgery went great.

Post-op pain was more than I expected but only for the first 2 days. No pain meds today.

I have shoulder pain that moves when I change position - I assume this is gas.

I have moved to puréed on day 3 per my instructions. I have no appetite but I am trying to get some Protein in through "shakes".

I started walking around the block yesterday and went a little further today twice.

Emotionally I've been up (glad it went well), down (from pain and fatigue) and asked myself more than once what did I do???

Staying positive though.

Hope to meet some good people here. :)

Hello! I was banded on the same day as you. The post-op pain wasn't as bad as I had anticipated. I saw/heard the lady that was banded before me and she was crying out. Not sure if it was from pain or from the anesthesia, or perhaps a combo of both. But from what I was told, I didn't make a peep.

I get a few sharp aches in my left shoulder and back from the gas, especially when I try to burp, but other than that, the incision sights pain is dull.

congrats- i was banded on the 11th. i thought the shoulder pain was from an existing shoulder issues, but after some google searching, found its your phrenic nerve. think about when someone has a heart attack- their arm hurts. its a similar concept from your stomach/diaphragm. it should go away in about a week or so- ice was more helpful than heat considering where the pain comes from. lay flat may also help.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
