I Am A Turtle! The Turtle Won The Race So Why Beat Myself Up.

I went into banding thinking i was going to be one of those who lost 25 lbs a month. I was going to sore right on to 165 lbs. So why 3 weeks out am i not there???? So i have spent some time beating myself up, like most very obese ppl do. I get on the scale expecting 20 lbs gone but find only 1 or 2 lbs gone. So today I did some soul searching. I am 25 days post band and i have lost 10 lbs in those 3 weeks. I have lost a total of 18 lbs since i started the week preop diet and a total of 22 lbs since my highest weight a little over a month ago. Hmmm ok maybe i am not losing 25 lbs a month but i am losing! Slowly but the lbs keep coming off. So I am going to rejoice in that and try so hard not to beat myself up.

Oh and i did have a small NSV this week. I got out of my closet a pair of jeans i have not had on in 2 years and i pulled them up. sucked in my tummy a little (lol) and zipped and buttoned them. Yes they are TIGHT but they least went up my hips and closed. Yay me!!! Yes this turtle is going to win this race.

I think it might be that i had that allergic reaction to the steri strips but he told me at my appt no baths yet :( so i take it to mean no swimming.

I completely understand where you are coming from! I have been avoiding the scale lately. I try to remind myself that I did loose a lot prior to surgery and that may have something to do with it. It's still frustrating though. Keep going with those NSV's!

Deb,

You're doing great! Congratulations on fitting into your jeans!

The next time those negative thoughts start to enter your mind, physically carry a bag that contains the amount of weight you've lost. I used to do this when I would hit a plateau and become discouraged, and it truly helped me focus on my success.

Keep working hard!

I think you are doing GREAT, keep on rockin it. I'm a turtle as well, banded April 4th down only 15 pounds but I'm happy as a clam. I was real cranky when the weight didn't fall off just like you, but I am realizing this is a learning process that I have not yet mastered. I am still a cricket but I'm rockin it a little better each week. At 5'

8". I thought I could lose weight at 1300 cal but I've had to winnow down to 1000-1100 to achieve 2# per week. Brutal reality....but I'm pulling up my big girl panties and eating 200 cal high protein/ low carb, every 3 hrs. Oh yeah I have my bad days, I fall off the wagon and have to haul myself back on, i didnt get the nickname YogiBear for nothing......but overall I'm getting my leg over this and I'm determined to ride it all the way to better health and a slimmer me.

Great advice Elizabeth! Yogi 15 lbs is great. I'm at about the same as you and if I think back to how much I struggled and failed prior to surgery it helps me realize how well I'm doing now. I'll take what little weight I've lost as a victory and remind myself that losing slowly is better than not losing at all.

Springers, what we have lost so far either slowly or quickly is NOT a " little weight"! Go to the store and pick up 15# of sugar! it is significant! So Turtles unite! We are doing great! Let's keep on....1-2# per week is a victory! We are doing great and getting better at this process every week!

And we aren't at restriction. At least I'm not. I restrict my caloric intake, most days, but I'm still hungry between meals and can eat way more than a cup of food. Looking forward to the green zone!

We turtles just keep on slowly winning the race. I'm not at my green zone either so i can have some pretty rough weeks trying to lose but overall I'm doing my turtle thing just like my turtle buddies out there. GO TURTLES! Keep on moving on!

I've decided it's just too hard to weigh myself everyday. I'm going to focus on my food intake and stop getting frustrated because I'm only losing an ounce or 2 a at time. I was really hoping to lose more weight faster but like the old song says: "You can't always get what you want, and if you try sometimes you'll find you get what you need!"

TURTLES UNITE!

julz~ <<<pushing the scale under the bed :D

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
