The only thing that I worry about is getting menstrual period on the day of the surgery or after because I always have horrible cramps but I am ready!!! I have eaten nothing but liquids and look at junk food as a thing of the past!! I am so focused right now its disgusting!! My sister asked me if I am going to be a Mess with all the weight off and I said No I am going to Be Blessed once the weight is off and there is a difference!! My life as I know it is going to start and loving me will continue to grow!!! I will no longer hurt  myself to the worlds way of eating!!!

I wouldn't worry about the menstrual cramps because the post op pain medication should help with the cramps.

Don't worry about your cycle. Anesthesia always brings mine on, even if it isn't time. With everything that will be happening to your abdomen area, cramps won't even be noticed. And the good pain meds will knock them out.

Good luck with you journey!

Why would you be a mess? You're going to be fabulous! And as mentioned, if you do get your period, your lovely pain meds will certainly help you with those cramps! Good luck!

Don't worry about your period, that's not where they are doing the surgery. I was just finishing mine. Did not affect anything. Just remember the first few weeks concentrate on healing not so much on weight loss. Follow the liquids to soft stage to a tee. Good luck!!!!

Trust me, the wonderful drugs they give you will erase all of your cramps. LOL! I had surgery a few weeks ago. There are rough days but overall totally worth it for the outcome. I'm sure you will do great.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
