My surgeon and dietitian suggested I look into the sleeve instead of the band. I love the idea of the band but now they are making me rethink it. I have about 150lbs to lose to get down to a normal weight for me. They said that much weight rarely happens with the band.

I have 150 to lose as well, and my surgeon had no issue doing the band.

My logic is, I'd rather start with a reversible procedure with the band. If the band doesn't work, then I'd consider having more than half my stomach cut away for the sleeve.

Just FYI, there are many people who've lost 100, even over 200 pounds with the band.

I've already lost 94 pounds in just under 5 months and I love my band. You can lose the weight you need to with the band, you just have to be committed to working for it.

Hello,

I also have to lose about 150lbs., but my surgeon wouldn't even consider anything but the band for me. I guess every surgeon has their own ideas of what will be best, but ultimately it is YOUR decision. To make my decision I made a list of the pros and cons of both types of surgery. This may help you out. You will do well in what ever you choose. Good Luck!!!

Bel i would question your surgeons ability if he doesnt know many banders that can lose a lot of weight .. successful surgeons have successful patients ...

but Randella makes a good suggestion ... the different sort of WLS should be more about your ability to cope with the different methods etc as most WLS weight loss seems to even out after 5 yrs post op from the stats i have read ..

I admit i am my bandster hospital's biggest loser but theres plenty of other bandsters who have lost all the weight they needed :)

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
