Low Blood Sugar And Stalled Weight Loss

Recommended Posts

I'm having trouble stabilizing my blood sugar lately. It's been way too low and I'm slowly reducing my meds. Metformin cut in half, Levinmir cut back by ten. Still have Victoza, too.

Yesterday morning it was 50, and right after dinner, it was 60. My partner made me eat a Frosty and my morning blood sugar was 78. Still not very high, but not crazy low.

I've also had stalled weight loss for a week. Hardly a plateau yet, but it does worry me. I can't exercise because my blood sugar has been so low and I'm so weak.

So do you think the two are related? I always thought that blood sugar levels were a good barometer for weight loss--keep the sugar down and weight will come off. But it doesn't seem to be working now.

I would call your PCP. Maybe you need to be off your meds altogether.

Although I was not diabetic I did have a high A1C (and gestational diabetes 17 years ago). I always thought that blood sugar levels had more to do with how your body was handling the glucose levels in your body than anything to do with weight...keeping in mind the higher your weight the more likely you are to have high blood sugar levels.

My blood sugar is low when I eat well, and when I eat well, I lose weight. That's how I connect the two.

I am also on Victoza and metformin, my doctor cut them both in half after a 25 lb weight loss.

May sugars are in the 95 to 120 range now.

You should check with your doctor you may no longer need the Levemir and the Victoza together.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
