So I just go hired for a new job. The problem is that I start before my surgery. And I only asked to miss the day of the surgery. How many days should I take off. This new job is not that physical........

My doctor required I take a week off (even though my job is at an optical shop so I walk some but nothing real physical) but I felt good enough that if I could have I would have gone back like... 2-3 days after my surgery.

I needed at least 3 days there is some pain after surgery and anesthesia I could have gone back then but have physical job so dr didn't release for a week and then with some restrictions on lifting I have heard of people with desk jobs going back after one but it was very hard on them. Good luck to you!

Hi Eileen:

Call me naive, but I had surgery on 5/17 and scheduled four days off. However, on 5/21, when I went for my first follow-up appointment, the physician stated I could not go back to work for two weeks. I am a nurse in a psych hospital, so although the work is not that physical, it does have the potential to be hostile.

I am grateful for the time off. The first couple of days were rough. I experienced bouts of nausea that sometimes continue even as of today (5/26). The pain in the left shoulder was excruciating. My physician had to call in both liquid Lortab and Phenegran suppositories.

Today is better, but I am glad that I am still at home. The most difficult thing about the surgery has been adding Protein to Soups. Everytime I do this, it "clabbers" and has to be thrown out. As you can only have 1/4 cup of Soup BID, it is a big loss and waste (in my opinion). However, I am committed to being successful...so I will persevere.

Wishing you success......maybe you might want to consider putting off the surgery until you are more settled in your job. That is a lot of stress at one time...new job, new surgery, new way of life.

Jean

My surgeon advised 2 weeks and a 10 lb weight limit. As a dialysis nurse that was going to be tough so I am scheduled to be off 3 weeks. This is a major life changing event and should be treated as such. Hopefully by the time I go back to work I will be on solids and able to handle them. I think waiting may be your best option for success.

I was banded on 5/23 and am doing fine (except the gas). It is tough to get the Water and Protein drinks in and I haven't managed to achieve that goal yet. I feel waterlogged...

I had surgery on Wednesday and went back to work on Monday.

I don't think I would have wanted less but I did not need more.

I had surgery on a Tuesday and was out of it that day. I had the rest of the week off. I needed it for rest. But by Monday, I was ready to go back. My surgeon said 4 days off was good. I had 6, including the weekend.

I'm still pre-op but I am having surgery on a Friday morning and am hoping to be back at work Monday morning. I have a non-physical desk job where I sit at a computer all day. I'm little worried about my pain meds making me dozey if I still need them but maybe it'll numb some of the stess :P

Had surgery late Thursday, so Friday, Sat, Sun, M-F, Sat, Sun. Back to work Monday to desk job where I worked from home. I work In HR and think you should be up front with them that you are having a medical procedure (you don't have to tell them what). That while you don't want to take excessive time off you also don't want to come back to soon and end up not being as effective as you want to be. I would recommend 5 business days.

When I had surgery I was more sore by the third day. It took a full week to feel normal for me. The second week I worked three half days because I had no energy, was tired by noon.

Hi, I’m new here. I’m currently on the liver shrinking diet. So far so good, but I have to say I haven’t found a protein shake I like. Anyone have any suggestions please? My surgery date is September 17th.

Fairlife Core are by far the best. They taste just as they are - chocolate milk. You can either get the 26 grams or the 42 grams (harder to find and more expensive). For straight protein look at Bulksuppliments.com ..they have really good whey proteins and offer auto ship plus they test for purity. No taste or smell...

Fairlife has strawberry, vanilla and of course chocolate. No more calories than other protein drinks. Stay away from Premiere, they're dealing with lawsuits due to not being honest about protein content.
