Fills And My Insurance

Recommended Posts

I'm scheduled for my first fill on June 27th. Surgery was May 15th. I'm kind of concerned because I just found out my insurance only covers 6 adjustments, after that it's $250 per adjustment.

All I can think is, what if I don't get restriction between the 6 visits? What if I need an unfill and have to us one of my adjustment visits? I'm just concerned and praying that my fills will go smoothly and that I reach my "green zone" within those visits.

Did you not ask questions about the associated fees after surgery?

No I didn't. I was so focused on doing things right and getting the approval that I didn't really ask. Once I read about others and their fills, I asked and now I know.

But thanks for your "feedback" it was so helpful that I can hardly contain myself :)

I'm almost sure that question was rhetorical but hey I thought I'd answer it anyway for ya

Blessings :)

I'm sorry if you didn't find my 'feedback' helpful, but one of the first questions I asked the surgeon, was about any ongoing fees, regarding to fills, and if I needed some sort of additional surgery.

I wouldn't worry about yet. Is it 6 fill over the lifetime? Or will it ever reset?

Discuss it with the surgeon, but see if he will be a little aggressive with the first fill...kind of give you a head start. Nothing too dramatic, but if he's like my doctor....there is a little wiggle room to start with..my doctor was only going to give me 1cc on my first visit, I did talk him into 2cc but that was it. I go in this thursday for another.

While you are there for your 1st fill explain to the sugeon the situation and ask him how much you would need to pay, if insurance wouldn't. Somethings there is a big difference between the two, and sometimes they won't give you the discount if you don't ask.

Hopefully you will find the green zone in less than 6 fills, but you can start saving a little each month to help for for any additional fills. Or you may also want to check into a medical credit card. They usually have a low interest rate...mine is just 4 %.

Call insurance yourself and asked if the fill maximum is lifetime or yearly. If lifetime look into a health insurance savings account through work. The money is taken out pre tax. It is use or lose though so it figure out how much you should take out. Also you would not be able to set 1 of those up until open enrollment this fall. I would explain your situation to the surgeon. Some give ridiculously small fills. You don't want to get in a situation where the doctor gives .5 fills all the time.

Thank you all for the feedback, I needed to vent and it's nice to know I wasn't overlooked :)

I did ask and it's within 12 months and it doesn't reset. $250 after. I was like yikes!! Lol but I trust my surgeon and he's great with communicating with his patients. He seem to really care. I think I was more shocked than anything.

It's ok. You're right. I should've asked but the truth is I was excited and nervous and focused on doing everything right that FILLS didn't cross my mind much. Once i read a post on here a month or so ago, I realized I better ask about this. So I asked. My insurance covered everything, I just never knew how many fills. I know about everything else including cosmetic surgery they wil cover, but those fills slipped my mind.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
