Almost 6Mos Post Op And I've Only Lost 15Lbs

Recommended Posts

I'm trying to figure out why the hell I'm not able to loose this weight. In the beginning I was going to the gym 2-4 days a week for a hr. Still nothing!! Now I'm eating less and not working out but I would think eating less would cause weight loss.

My 4th fill is next week, and I'm wondering if I will be in my green zone.I'm still able to eat a little more than a cup of food.< /p>

Do you have a nutritionist to see? Maybe it's not the quantity of food, as much as the quality?

My Dr said she was going to refer me to a dietitian. I didn't see a dietitian, only spoke to one over the phone when I was going thru the process. I only got a pamphlet on what to eat and not eat.

You should be taking in 80+ grams of Protein a day, then veg, then fruit. No bread, Pasta, sugar... you know, easy foods. if I deviate from this kind of diet at all, my weight loss stops altogether.

This is what I've been told:

60-80 grams of Protein

25-35 grams of fat (closer to 25)

No saturated fat

45-60 grams of carbs (complex carbs)

Start your day with Protein. If you like coffee, you can buy Syntrax nectar Cappuchino. One scoop has 32 grams of Protein. Eat solid foods as much as possible. It may be uncomfortable, but, it helps the process of learning to eat less. Watch out for the slider foods, if you have one, make sure it it healthy.

Don't be too hard on yourself. Its not easy. My weight loss has been VERY slow until my band was over half full. You can do it:)

A meeting with a dietician would help you greatly.

The thing is, you may be eating smaller amounts but that doesn't necessarily mean it's good food choices. Have you considered tracking your calories, carbs, Protein, and fat? I use an app called 'Lose It!' that I absolutely love. I've used it since the day I got home from the hospital and it's truly a life saver.

You'll notice that everyone is recommended a different diet to follow. The trick is finding what works best for your body. We're all different so some people can't eat hardly any carbs or they won't lose, whereas others can eat tons without an issue. Some do really low calorie, others are more generous with them and do great. Some don't count calories at all and do fine. I only suggest you log your calories and nutrients, at least for awhile, so you can see where your food choices might be hurting your weigh loss efforts.

As for me, I eat between 1000-1200 calories a day. I eat at least 60g grams of Protein, no more than 125g of carbs, and no more than 20% fat. I don't buy white rice, bread or Pasta. Only whole grain and brown rice, and if the label says "bleached" or "enriched" I don't buy it. For me, this is the formula that works.

Best wishes to you.

I really like all the posts before mine. Everyone has really good advice. For a lot of people, the lapband doesn't work by itself. I only give it 10% credit for my weight loss and the other 90% to OCD-type compliance to a diet, plenty of Water, exercise, and tracking everything. I used to think that micromanaging my diet so much would cause me to stress out . . . but I think it's much more stressful to not lose weight and not to know why. I'm only about 6 months out too and lost nothing the first three months but in the last 3, I lost 32 from being super-strict with myself.

Thanks you guys, I will try to keep track of my calories. That may help. I'm going to try to see a dietitian in a few wks. Is it true, the more u weigh, u loose faster?

In general the more you weight the more it takes to keep the body functioning ie it makes more energy to move around a 300 lb body than a 150 pound body. So if you drastically cut your calorie intake and up the exercise the greater your calorie deficit and the more you should loose.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
