bunnyovdeth 0 Posted May 24, 2012 Tomorrow is my one month anniversary and I have no restriction. I just experimented by eating a whole cheese quesadilla with salsa and I ate it very quickly and there were no problems with spitting spitting up or pressure. I do have increasing pain in my port site. It's not excruciating but it's worst then weeks before. I also started gaining weight last week. (gaining and losing the same 4 lbs) even though I went back to work and should be burning calories there. Is any of this normal? Do I just need to wait for my first fill? Thanks guys. Heathermarie0407 67 Posted May 24, 2012 I'm only two weeks post op but I think it's normal to not have any restriction possibly until you have had two or three fills. If your pain at the port site is getting worse that might be something to be concerned about.
DELETE THIS ACCOUNT! 12,703 Posted May 25, 2012 It takes most people more than one fill, at least a couple, before they have restriction. Right now your band is likely empty (or close to it) and can eat pretty much like you before surgery. People often refer to the phase between surgery and when they have adequate restriction as "bandster hell" because you're pretty much stuck relying on willpower. Restriction will come, it just takes some time. In the meantime just do your best to make good food choices and try to moderate your serving sizes. Best wishes. Holly Dolly 575 Posted May 25, 2012 I didn't have restriction for a long time and have had more than 10 fills. I wouldn't try putting your band to the test. Put the lapband rules in force now because the band is just a tool to help you. If I waited for restriction, I wouldn't have lost weight for a long time! bunnyovdeth 0 Posted May 25, 2012 Thanks guys. I feel a bit better. Hopefully my port site pain is from too much physical activity. Can't wait to see my dr though!
Toddy 758 Posted May 25, 2012 I didn't feel any restriction until my third fill, for a total of 5.5 cc in a 10 cc band. My last fill was a little over a month ago and the restriction has almost disappeared ;-( I can't wait until June 11th when I go back for another fill! NWgirl 574 Posted May 25, 2012 The first couple months you most likely won't feel restriction. If you want to lose weight in this time, you have to commit to dieting for the interim.
SashaWLS 412 Posted May 25, 2012 there are two issues... restriction, and overeating... at 1.5 months out I don't have restriction either. But I have found that if I eat more than about a cup or a cup and a half of food in one sitting that I start to feel nauseous, a little suck, burping... I can eat and eat, but I don't FEEL good, so at NWgirl's suggestion (thank you NWgirl!!) I'm trying to stick to about a cup of food at a time and I feel MUCH better... marfar7 1,533 Posted May 25, 2012 As others have said, you don't have restriction now and probably won't have any for at least a couple of fills. I finally had restriction after my 3rd (4 1/2 mths into it) and I wish I had known this beforehand. It would have saved me from thinking I was a total failure. Be patient. I promise, you'll get restriction soon. Then you'll be on your way to those skinny jeans! Keep up the good work! Marci
Krystyneh 55 Posted May 25, 2012 I haven't been banded yet (hopefully in June or July I just scheduled my first pre-op appointment for Thursday at 10am) and I was told by many people I personally know that have been banded that restriction takes time...most said it took them anywhere from 7months-2 years before they got restriction and 25% of people that I know that are banded haven't hit restriction and they are filled to capacity...good luck
daisychains7 427 Posted May 25, 2012 This is reassuring. I'm about two weeks and the hunger is really kicking in. I never feel full for more than a couple hours, so I can't wait to feel restriction eventually.
litl1997 14 Posted May 25, 2012 I would say if you can go 3-4 hours your doing great. I havent had a fill yet and it takes me that long to get hungry. I am eating around a cup of food right now and i feel good. All this might change later. Willpower has a lot to do with it
