Feel2Young2B40 0 Posted March 6, 2006 Hi! My doctor recommends 60 grams per day but I would check with yours to see what he/she recommends. I use a whey Protein that has 23 grams per serving which I use in the morning. I seem to do better with a Protein shake in the morning because I'm a little tight before lunch. After that, I know I have almost half of what I need for the day so I concentrate on eating Proteins when I feel hungry during the day at lunch and dinner as well as Snacks. Good luck! tpierce98664 0 Posted March 6, 2006 HI, My doctor is a little different. He says if I do not have 70+ grams of Protein per day every day my weight lost will stall. So far I have followed orders and I've been loosing about a pound a day. 29 lbs since banded on 2/3. He says (dr.) Protein keeps us with a full feeling and our bodies won't go into starvation mode. Banded in KS 0 Posted March 6, 2006 My surgeon has a terrific nurse in his office that runs a support group. She is constantly reiterating the importance of Protein. Her explanation for stalling weight loss when you don't get your Protein was because your body needs to get all it needs to function or it will go into "starvation mode" and try to hang on to every calorie it can. This stalls weight loss. If you give your body the protein it needs, then it has energy to metabolize the stored fat cells. I am not positive on any of this, but it made sense to me. And in the one month that I skipped my Protein shakes, I lost only 1 lb.! I drink a protein shake in the morning that has about 40 g of protein, so that way I know between lunch and dinner... I am definitely hitting 60 easy. It is by Isopure and you can order it from AllStarHealth.com. Has anyone else heard anything different about protein? tpierce98664 0 Posted March 6, 2006 Banded in KS...perfectly explained...exactly what my DR. and Nutri. said. and so far it holds true!(for me anyway)
sleepyjean 0 Posted March 6, 2006 My doctor said your Protein needs depend on your body weight - which totally makes sense. For me, it's 90g a day.
Monica S 1 Posted March 6, 2006 I was told not to count grams, but to make sure that half of every meal is Protein. This has been working for me.
freebit 0 Posted March 8, 2006 I found that my body tends to try to get me to eat Protein. I eat as much as I can which is not much. I dont stress over it though. I never count portions or anything. I eat what I want/can and my body tells me that protein is the most appealing. So I tend to gravitate towards it. My band tells me when to stop eating. Counting portions is for dieters. I have dieted alot in my life and I can say that bandsters are not dieters. The difference between being on a diet and being banded may be subtle and just semantic, but I think it is a very important difference. So eat as much portein as you feel comfortable with eating then stop. My 2 cents anyways.

cashley 0 Posted March 12, 2006 my doc said 60grms of Protein i am 7 days in to my banding and i drink ensure at less 3 or 4 they have 13 grams but it doesn'e help withthe hungry feeling I'm not an expert but I wanted to just let you know my experiences and some document facts. I don't think you are feeling full because ensure is full of simple carbs (sugars) and that increases hunger. Just from my experience I did Dr. Atkins Protein shakes prior to surgery and wasn't hungrey at all... Then post op he switched me to Boost Hi-Protein and I was drinking about 5 a day and starving. He switched me because he wanted me to have more calories after surgery to heal. After my two weeks I went back to Dr. Atkins shakes and my hunger is so much better. They don't taste as good though as Boost or Ensure but I'd rather not have the entire day of cravings.
HarleyNana 10 Posted March 12, 2006 I was told 60, which I did the first 3-4 months. I've really slacked off and guess what, so has my weight loss, maybe we're onto something here.
