My Band And I Need Some Couples Therapy

Recommended Posts

Ok...I have come to hate this thing inside me. I'm hungry like I've always been but I throw up a lot when I eat. I just don't know what to do so that this band and I can get back in sync with one another...actually I don't even know that we have ever been in sync. I lost 30lbs when I first had it done, but have gained some of that back....that was over a year and a half ago. I'm just so frustrated!

Are you doing all of the things recommended like not drinking while eating, taking very small bites and chewing till everything is just mush in your mouth? You did loose some, so what did you do when you were loosing? Do that again and try not to slip back into your old habits. Good luck to you. :)

Sounds like you may have too much fill. Knock on wood I have never PB's, vomitted in almost 2 years. Also are you eating foods that are not band friendly: doughy breads, raw carrots, dry chicken, steak?

I agree with the other posters, also the band is a tool. I am almost 3 months out and have learned to use this tool. By following wit my dr request. There are a lot things that could be causing you to vomit. I would see my dr and talk to him. Did you stay in contact with physician after banding? with the band inside you should have visits with dr. I meet a lady 2 years out who was there for a fill. The band needs to be maintained if its causing you distress always remember to see ur dr. Good luck to you.

I'd go see a new doctor who has fluroscopy and barium and get my fills from someone who knows what they are doing.. That's nuts that you are a year into this without decent restriction. I go to mexico for my fills but i live in california. I had 2 fills and I"m 8cc in a 10 cc band. I'm tight but not excessively.. warm tea opens the band most times if i really feel too tight. but the bottom line is i was banded feb 9 this year.. have lost 40 pounds.. and don't see any reason not to get to goal by september 5th ( my birthday)..

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
