I was banded on Monday and I still feel really full. I am struggling to get any liquid in and all day only got in 12 ounces. Am I doing something wrong? I can't even think about eating food yet I see others saying they are hungry. I can't fail at this and I want to follow the rules. I need some guidance please.

I was the same way.... banded on Friday 5-18. I was swollen and afraid to drink anything. I had very little the first two days. Its most important for you to get Water in so you don't dehydrate! Take a deep breath and relax you are healing...We are ALL different. I was so upset on day 1 when I got on because others banded the same as we were up and saying how easy it was and I wasn't in the same place. I know for me Pain meds also slows my systems way down... so I get off them as fast as I can. (not a suggestion just what I do). today is day 5 for me and I have had two shakes a Jello and about 4 ounces of soup. Also about 48 oz of water too. I am a bit hungry and getting ready to make a Protein Shake. Hang in there and sip, sip, sip go slow. If you are still worried call your Dr. Its worth your peace of mind. Please keep in touch and let us know how you are doing!

What is your doctors "diet" plan post op. I did not get mushies until week 3. For seven days I was on Clear liquids only (broth and protien shakes which i realise aren't clear), and then 7 days full liquid (tomato, squash Soup and Protein shakes).

Did your doctor put any fill in during surgery? You should be able to get more than 12 oz down in a day. I would call the office and ask. Everytime someone has a lot of trouble post op getting liquids down it turns out their doctor put in several CC's.

Sometimes the gas and swelling makes it hard to get down enough liquids in the first few days. If you need to, set a timer for every 15 minutes and drink an ounce or two of liquids every time the alarm goes off. Getting the shakes in the first few days is not as important as making sure you are not allowing yourself to get dehydrated.

Spoke to doctor today. He says that he thinks I am just extra swollen because of the hernia repair. I have gotten much more Fluid in today so he said to just take my time but make sure I am getting more in each day.
