Help!!! Should I Change My First Fill Date??? Help!!!

Recommended Posts

Hi there...thanks for reading. I am scheduled to have my first fill on May 30th. I am a third grade teacher and cannot be out of work on the 31st and 1st due to field trips and field day. Does anyone think I should change my date? I am not sure how I am going to feel?? This is my first fill and I am not sure what to expect.... ANY HELP would be appreciated!!!

You'll walk out of the Dr office and won't feel a thing. I've had 6 fills and it's less intrusive than getting a flu shot.

My take on it, I'd postpone. Only because if you end up too tight (rare for a first fill, but can happen) you'll need to get it addressed right away. It's only a few days. Why risk it if you absolutely cannot miss work?

I postponed my first fill for a month due to a cruise. I could have had it before, but would have only had about a week and a half before we left for it to settle in. I didn't want to be out of the country in the middle of the ocean with a band problem.

Does ur doc do fills umder fluroscopy or blind? If he does with fluro (xray) u shouldn't get over filled & will do just fine. Either way I'd go ahead. Just make sure ur stocked up on Protein Drinks for the field trips ;)

I think you should be okay. My surgeon wants me to be on Clear Liquids for 2 days after, and then 2 days of full liquids. In that case, I would make sure I have plenty of liquids available to me! Karen

Most 'first fills' the majority of people feel no different .. but there is an odd one or two people that do feel a little too tight afterwards, the decision is either plan a 'just in case' solution like plenty of Protein drinks and liquids or postpone for a few days .. .. its your call :)

I'm a 4th grade teacher and get exactly what you're saying. It's a very busy time. My first visit with the surgeon is the 5th of June and I'm nervous.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
