Is It Normal To Just Take Out 1/2 Of My Fill When My Band Slipped?

Recommended Posts

Hi!

I'm 2 1/2 yrs post op and about 12 lbs from goal. My band slipped about 4 mths ago, altho I just had it taken care of this past Monday cuz I was tired of the severe reflux at nite. For 4 mths I Sufferred every single nite, taking boatloads of meds and sleeping sitting up. Couldn't stand it anymore and went in. It was slipped. My dr removed 1/2 of my fill (about 5cc) and will leave it out for 2 wks before refilling it.

I've read everyone has all of their Fluid removed for a longer period. Will some fluid in my band prevent it from springing back into action? I'm terrified I'm gunna gain weight (as my usual 1/2 tuna sandwich was definately not enuf!) over these next 2 weeks.

Just wondering if anyone else had just 1/2 their fluid removed and did it pop back into place? Why would he remove just 1/2 of it? Just curious. Never heard of anyone having 1/2 removed for a slip.

And btw, I'm sleeping like a baby since Monday! No reflux at all! Wish I had done that alot sooner!

Marci

I was completely unfilled, and hungry as can be....I still am...... and have gained nearly 15 pounds. I was unfilled in December 2011 and currently have 4.4cc's in a 10cc band. They center says they have to fill me slowly to diminish the chances of another slip.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
