I wanna blend up some watermelon... yall think its gonna be too much sugar?

ALSO

I haven't been walking as much as i should... cuz im still sore. Should i suck it up and walk anyways? How are yall handling it all? The port site is what prolly hurts the most still even tho its bearable BUT it kinda hurts to sit straight up. ANYONE ELSE having the problem of sitting up erect as you did before the surgery?

(Banded on may 18th)

thank you!! :)

You're normal!! It was about a week before I could sit up without my body aching. And while it's good to walk, you should listen to your body. Push yourself without exerting yourself.

I'm sure watermelon is fine, but I didn't want that taste after surgery. After all the sweet Protein shakes during preop, all I wanted afterwards was savory and salt!

I ate it when I started to put fruits and veggies back in my foods I was aloowed to eat. I do eat them now but not alot because I tend to stop losing weight when I eat too much of them.

As for watermelon, haven't even thought of it but with summer coming and I have started seeing the watermelon at the grocery store in huge bins....hopefully I can have a little every once in awhile.

As far as walking....keep at it slowly. I have been walking since 1 week post-op around the neighborhood and yesterday we went for 2 miles (5 weeks post-op). So little by little you will increase how far you can walk. And it's great cause with the weight loss it does make it easier. The more I walk, it seems like I lose weight more steady. And I sleep better too. Good Luck to ya.

My nurse wants me to eat fruit. It is a good source of Fiber. I have a small amount at lunch and dinner which helps my brain to know I am done eating. Without dessert I "think" I'm not done eating. I am however several years out.

For now I would hold off on fruit. Fruit was not on my post op diet. I did not have fruit until week 5 when I returned to solids. I fully intend to have cherries when they come into session this summer. Been buying blackberries at costco for several weeks.

Walk as much as you can. One idea is to go to the mall in the morning. There are benches placed every couple hundred feet so you can stop and have a rest if you need one.

i never did get any shoulder pain... i got lots of jaw pain, back of neck pain and upper back pain but nothing in my shoulders. what is the shoulder pain attributed to?

Usually the gas that they use to inflate your abdomen to do the surgery dissipates and moves toward your left shoulder and chest, thus creating left shoulder pain. Walking usually is the only thing that really helps to get that gas out. I would follow the stages of your post op diet and keep to the liquids for a long as your MD states, then move to fruit after you are able to go to solids. I think the biggest risk is taking too big of a bite and getting stuck, which is no fun. You'll be able to eat solid foods soon enough. Be patient.

It's watermelon and it's like 96% Water... It can't make that much a difference .

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
