Hi,

I live in East Tennessee. I was banded on 12/27/05 by Dr. Mike Hodge at the Johnson City Med Center. My starting weight was 240lbs and as of this morning I am at 199lbs. I haven't bought new clothes yet but the ones I am wearing are getting so baggy that my friend at Church told my husband he needed to buy me some new clothes.

Being banded was the best thing I have ever done for myself. I am off all my diabetic medicine and at my last visit to the doctor he cut my heart medicine in half. He said he will probably take me off the heart medicine at my next visit.

This weekend my son came home. He had not seen me since I had surgery. He was thrilled at my progress. We went to the mall and I was actually able to keep up with him. When we got home, I think he was more tired than I was.

Hey Connie

So glad you found LBT. Its a great place to make friends, learn a LOT and find plenty of encouragement along your journey. Grats on hitting ONEderland and what a great NSV (non-scale victory) it was for you to go out with your son and enjoy the time rather than feeling so worn out! So happy to hear about the meds becoming unncessary! Hope to hear more from you as you progress.

Hey Connie! Welcome to LBT and congrats on your weight loss so far! My parents are both from Bristol (the Va side) so I have lots of family up your way. Anyhow, just wanted to say HI! Glad you are here!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
