I've lost nearly 45 pounds, but since the 40 pound mark, I've been having a lot of trouble with sleeping and my CPAP machine. I'm getting a severely dry mouth at night and the Water in the reservoir isn't decreasing. I think I've started to sleep with my mouth open. I didn't sleep much at all last night and I'm miserable today.

My question: how much weight did you lose before you had to have your pressure decreased, and did you have dry mouth symptoms?

I stopped using mine after I was down about 75 lbs. I did some trials and found I slept just as well without it. I would suggest you talk with your docs.

Simon,

I always sleep with my mouth open which is why I have a full face mask.

I am down 27 lbs since I started the Lap band process but 50 lbs since I got my machine 2 years ago.

I have just recently started waking up with a very dry mouth and waking up with a slight headache which goes away after I get up and move around.

I spoke to my primary care doctor and we are in the process of turning the machine down from 10 to 9.

He also told me that if I wanted to try sleeping with out it I could do that and see how I feel the next day.

Hope you find your answer.

Thank you for sharing your experience, Grandma. My dry mouth actually gets stuck closed, and I have to gradually sip Water into my mouth to release it. But I do wake up with a headache and basically feeling miserable.

I tried sleeping without it but I snored so loud my partner made me put on my mask. I think I've had my machine since 2007. Probably time for a new machine. I have come to dread bedtime.

I got a chin strap to hold my mouth closed but since passing the 80 pound mark I sleep fine without it, no longer even snoring. Remember even thin people can have apnea and if you are still snoring you probably still need it. I would have another sleep study and see if u just need some adjustments or if your apnea is gone :)

Does your machine have an adjustable humidifier? Mine does and its great. I can up the humidity if my mouth gets too dry. Cdheck with your doctor and see if you can get a new machine.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
