Lesson Learned The Hard Way :(

Recommended Posts

Note to all: Do not get a fill just before any important event!

I started running 2 weeks after surgeryin October doing the Couch to 5K, then started training to run my first half marathon. I should have been doing that this morning, but instead I was at my doctors office getting an unfill :(

I got a fill on Wednesday afternoon and was good with just liquids for a couple of days. Starting yesterday I couldn't even get those down. I had my first PB from a smoothie... into a cup, in my car while driving. Not good. When it got to the point that I was puking Water up I called my doctor and he told me to come in this morning. Obviously, after going 24 hrs with no liquids and being unable to drink, there was no way I could run 13.1 miles. So disappointed!! So I hope everyone can learn from my mistake and get a fill far in advance of any important events!

Side note: When I got to the doc and he had me take a drink under fluoro, the liquid was going through, so I'm not sure if some swelling went down or what. Anyway, he took 0.3 cc's out and I was able to drink without pain. However now at home I'm sipping juice and while it's going down, it is a little uncomfortable, whereas in the office it was not at all. Any idea what gives with that?

It's probably swelling that's causing the issue now, after you've had an unfill. Some people swell more than others, and you might just be a sweller.

I hope everything settles down for you.

After my last fill I have been very tight I think bands are very picky different times of day changes in weather alsorts of things change what and how much I eat. With every fill only two so far I have had to eliminate foods from my diet. I can not eat hardly any type of meat no matter how it's cooked well, I can still eat most sea foods. I tried drinking a green smoothly the other night and up it came i couldnt eat or drink anything else that night I drank it at noon next day no problem I seem to get tighter at night most people are tight in mornig? No rymhe or reason to it sometimes.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
