First Fill And Confused

Recommended Posts

Was banded on 03/22/12. I got my first fill on 05/17/12. I was told to been liquids for 24-48 hours than start foods as tolerated. My problem is I can drink almost anything, but today being the 48 hours later I cannot tolerate ANY food. No matter how soft or mushy it is. Does this mean I'm too tight? Or that I'm swollen? I need any advice please!! I'm crusted and a bit hungry! :(

Call your doctor please. If you can do a couple more days with shakes and Soup until you get a hold of doctor...but if you are vomiting or reflux or stuck feeling with pain it means you are filled to tight.

I agree call dr. It could be either to tight or just being swollen

Any time that you feel unable to tolerate foods or liquids when you have been following your surgeon's instructions, you should call your surgeon's office for further instructions.

My surgeon and his staff have been very responsive and helpful to address my questions and advise me on the proper course of action based on my symptoms at the time. There have been 2 times which my concerns have resulted in been hospitalized because of unanticipated complications.

What everyone else said. Be sure to keep yourself hydrated. Do thinned out Protein shakes to keep some nutrition going in. If you get to the point that liquids don't go down, call you surgeon's office even though it's a weekend. Tell then you cannot get liquids down and ask for instructions.

Dehydration doesn't take long to set in, and man, do you feel horrible. So, please stay on top of it. I was overfilled once. I could not get yogurt or mashed potatoes down. Put up with it for a week hoping it would get better. I'd had 1cc put in. Had 1/2cc taken out...instant relief. A month later, things had calmed down....I went back and had another 1cc put in.

Don't be miserable, it sucks.

Hey everyone, thanks for the responses! I called my doctor office and they advised me to give it a few more days so I did, and have to admit that because it was my first fill my body needed to adjust. I'm doing much better, and so far so good!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
