Hello everyone,

I am new to this site. I just started my journey 4/2 and I will be having my surgery 6/4. I am so excited, scared, and optimistic all at the same time. I'm working and going to school online right now and can hardly focus on my studies. I am looking forward to this new journey and hope to get some support from here.

Talk to you again soon!

Be Blessed Everyone :)

KelzDown,

Oh my gosh! I recognized that your surgeon is from Rockford Illinois! My surgery is scheduled for 6/12/12. I am going to Mexico, but Dr. Shayani is doing all of my after care. Where are you from? I am from Rochelle. Our stats are very similar. If you would like a buddy on this journey, I would love to share!

I, too am completing my Masters on-line and am finding that I am so excited that I can hardly focus on my studies.

I look forward tohearing from you!!

Jennifer

Hi Jennifer,

Of course we can travel this lapband road together. I figure the more support the better. Have you met Dr. Shayani yet? He is very funny and I feel very comfortable with him and Nathan (whom you will met as well). He lives and works out of the Chicago area but comes here to Rockford and has an office here too. For this to be a large city I am surprised no other surgeon has set up a WLS practice here before now. I am really glad to live right here where a Dr. is located. I don't know if I would want to travel for each visit. But I guess lots of people do. Anyways, welcome aboard the lapband train! I already have a ton of questions for you (like why Mexico) but we can get into all that later.

Talk to you real soon!

Kelly

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
