Anyone HAve to Take Anti-Biotics Before Surgery?

Recommended Posts

Hey all, I may be getting a sinus infection and wondered if anyone had to take anti-biotics 2-1 week before banding.

I was on antibiotics for a sinus infection before my surgery, my last dose was on a Sunday and my surgery was that Tues (Feb 14). The dr said it was fine. In fact, I even got to skip the antibiotic shot that they usually give before you go in for the surgery since I was just on them.

Good luck! :)

I got sick on a Friday and was scheduled to be banded on Wed. The dr went agressive and gave me a 5 day antibiotic and some spray for my nose. It worked and I took my last dose on Tuesday, everything turned out fine.

Thanks all, I just didn't want to screw up surgery, even though I'm getting more and more nervous.

And your welcome Kim, glad I could give you the laugh! :-D

I was scheduled for surgery on a Tuesday and when my pre op test came back I had a bladder infection. My surgery was put off until Friday and my surgeon put me on VERY strong meds. Then I had them in my IV in hospital.

I had a urinary tract infection and haad been on antibiotics for several days for that...I think I surgery day I was on day 5 of antibiotics of a 10-day course. They said it was no problem and just gave me antibiotics following surgery and everything was fine.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
