3 weeks post op and new to the forum

Hello All!

I am feeling a little discouraged! :help: I was banded on Feb 13. I was not home 3 days when I started to feel hungry. I was so ashamed that I was hungry because I felt like the surgery was a waste. When I smell food, I want to literally cry because I feel deprived and I eat small amounts of food that I shouldn't. :hungry: The funny thing is, I have lost about 10 punds. Is this a case of not being mentally prepared for the surgery?

I actually quit smoking 2 weeks before surgery and have had no desire to smoke. :clap2: I think with the habit of smoking gone the real addiction is obvious. Please someone advise!

I had my band on 2/2 and felt the same way. In talking to others, it is not unusual for some of us to be this way until the 1st fill. I have mine on 3/13. I can't wait. I lost 10 pounds the first week and none since then.

Thank you for responding. I'm glad to know I'm not alone in this. I mean I was supposed to be drinking liquids for 2 weeks and was eating mash potatoes and pinching meat. Should I confess this to my doctor in case I have done some damage? I know....I'm pathetic.

that means you are totally normal. I was starving to death after been banded for about 10 days. I thought i was going to die of food starvation. until you are filled appropiately you will still feel hungry.

Hi SkinnyMinny ~ (love the name)

There is a wonderful food list somewhere around this place... it gives food ideas that will help you overcome -dramatic- cravings and not feel like youve blown the first month!

Hang in there Baby! Youre gonna make it - I promise!

Hey, you are absolutely normal! Keep an eye on things while you concentrate on letting that band heal into place, nice and solid. This isn't an instant thing...it does take time and getting your head around the changes...which takes, you guessed it! Time. Take a deep breath, do the best you can, and concentrate on healing. You'll be a happy bandster in no time!

Welcome to LBT!! You're definitely not alone in the hunger stage. My husband was also banded 2/13. I followed 2 days later on 2/15. We're both starving!!!!

In fact, they moved our first fill up a week, hehe. Cannot wait!

Just as a FYI - week 4 is the absolute hardest. This is the time when you are just down right H U N G R Y. (can it get any worst??)

Chug the Water, and take lots of walks. But like i said - your gonna make it.

((hugs))

Hey, You are so not alone. I was cheating on day 5..with eating 1/2 bag (small grab bag) of baked cheetos. I went and got my first fill yesterday...so maybe it will be better, so far so good. Call your Dr and let them know how hungry you are. My original fill date was 3/14, but I told him I was going to eat the house down, and he moved it to 3/7. It helps to communicate with your Dr whats going on. Good luck!

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

The 14th was my day. I am home and recovery is going pretty smooth. They even let me walk out of the hospital. Picture of me in recovery curtesy of my boyfriend lol.

Neat you have a pic of this day! I was sooo happy to get my surgery. It was well worth it! And I'm not even near my goal. I had surgery Dec. 2!
